8:35 PM 5:05 PM Local Time: A comfortable win for Scotland in the opening match of the three-match T20I series, as they outclassed Namibia by seven wickets with seven balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead.
Earlier, Namibia recovered well to post 159/7 after being in serious trouble at 75/5. Gerhard Erasmus led from the front with a crucial half-century, anchoring the innings and guiding the recovery.
After choosing to bat first, Namibia had a poor start, losing three wickets inside the powerplay as Scotland’s mix of pace and spin troubled the top order. Louren Steenkamp attempted a counterattack with 27, but his dismissal added to the pressure as wickets continued to fall.
Reduced to 94/6 in the 14th over, Erasmus found support from Ruben Trumpelmann, and the pair added an important 42-run stand. Erasmus carried the innings almost single-handedly before falling in the 19th over, but his effort helped Namibia reach a competitive total.
Jasper Davidson and Mark Watt bagged a couple of wickets each for Scotland, while Safyaan Sharif, Zainullah Ihsan, and Oliver Davidson celebrated a solitary wicket.
In reply, George Munsey set the tone early with a fluent 44, while Brandon McMullen anchored the chase with a steady unbeaten 44. Finlay McCreath chipped in with 16 in a brisk opening stand of 53 runs, providing a solid platform in the powerplay. After a couple of wickets in the middle phase, skipper Richie Berrington played a crucial hand, scoring 34 off 21 balls and stitching a match-defining 67-run partnership with McMullen to take the game away from Namibia.
Despite picking up three wickets, Namibia struggled to contain the scoring, with Max Heingo being the standout bowler with two wickets. Scotland maintained control throughout the chase and sealed a convincing victory with a composed batting effort.
