5:38 PM IST and Local Time: Sri Lanka A side makes it a white wash with this victory. A scintillating win for the hosts, who even seal the decider here. Arriving for the chase, Sri Lanka A got off to a splendid start with the bat.
Following a couple of watchful overs, Kamil Mishara and Lasith Croospulle aggregated a fascinating 50-plus stand. They negated pace and spin before the right-hander was done by Simon Keene, seeing an end to the 62-run opening stand. Right after, Tim Pringle removed Kavija Gamage before Pavan Rathnayake held the fort. The pair orchestrated a huge stand, making sure they didn't bog down the visiting bowlers. Mishara’s fluent strokeplay against frequent looseners eased the pressure from Rathnayake.
As a result, the right-hander assisted the left-hander in a mammoth 130-run third-wicket partnership, taking the contest deep in their favour. However, Simon Keene came back in the 29th over to get the better of the settled batters, snaring a couple of wickets. Ahan Wickramasinghe and Sonal Dinusha added 65 runs together right after. However, a couple of quick wickets in the third powerplay meant that Sri Lanka were back under pressure.
Following a couple of silent overs, Ahan’s back-to-back fours helped Sri Lanka get to his fifty and minimise the required runs. Eventually, Sri Lanka sealed the deal with 16 balls left. After choosing to bat first, the visitors had a rough start, slipping to 60 for 3 under early pressure from Sri Lanka’s new-ball attack. But the game flipped thanks to a superb 122-run partnership between Boyle and Abbas. While Boyle looked comfortable from ball one, Abbas showed great patience early on before settling in and taking control.
Abbas went on to play a match-defining knock, staying unbeaten on 110. He held the innings together and built handy partnerships with Chu and Tim Pringle to push the total past 300 — a score that once looked unlikely.
Sri Lanka-A were impressive for the first half, with Vijayakanth Viyaskanth leading the way, but they lost grip in the final overs as the bowlers couldn’t contain the late surge.
