3:14 PM IST and 3:44 PM Local Time: A successful chase for the visitors as they equalise the series tally 1-1. Sri Lanka Women bounce back in an emphatic fashion after being one down in the three-match WODI series against Bangladesh. The Lionesses showcased an all-round performance in the field. Despite their lower middle-order collapse, the 77-run partnership for the fourth wicket was central to this chase.
Arriving for the chase, Sri Lanka Women faced an early jolt in the form of opener Hasini Perera as Salma Khatun cleaned her up halfway through the first powerplay. Subsequently, Chamari Athapaththu and Imesha Dulani negated the remainder of the powerplay, aggregating 45 runs in the phase. The skipper was accelerating and taking on the Bangladeshi pace and spinners. However, Dulani departed right after the first powerplay in single digits. Subsequently, 33 runs followed before Chamari was played down for a 39-ball 40 in the 17th over.
Just when Bangladesh seemed to be crawling in the contest, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Hansima Karunaratne flexed their mature batting. The pair took some time to get used to the humid conditions, the pace, and the bounce on the surface. The pair scored in strike rotation more often in the initial half of their partnership.
Subsequently, they used the crease and took calculated risks to narrow down the difference in scores. Eventually, the fifty-run stand came up, and 21 runs were needed from 19 overs. It was a cakewalk for the set batters with Harshitha bringing up her eighth WODI fifty. However, the hosts pounced back on them, extracting three quick wickets against the run of play before the lower middle order completed the chase.
Earlier, Bangladesh Women opted to bat first and lost Juairiya Ferdous (2) and Sharmin Akhter (0) inside the powerplay. Skipper Nigar Sultana joined Sharmin Sultana and led the recovery work. Both put 46 between them before Sharmin fell on 25 in the 16th over. Sobhana Mostary (5), Shorna Akter (16), and Ritu Moni (17) failed to make an impact. Nigar at the other end kept going strong and brought up a well-composed fifty before getting dismissed on 58 in the 41st over.
Nahida Akter (20) and Rabeya Khan (15) contributed lower down the order before the hosts got bundled out on 165 in 45.5 overs. For Sri Lanka Women, skipper Chamari Athapaththu (3/36) picked up three wickets, whereas Malki Madara (2/30), Nimasha Madushani (2/29), and Inoka Ranaweera (2/28) grabbed two each.
Stay tuned for the presentation and player's pov.
