4:07 PM IST, 4:37 PM Local Time: Sri Lanka defeat Bangladesh by 25 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the first WT20I at Sylhet in the 5-match series!

Bangladesh won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The visitors posted 161/4 in 20 overs with Harshitha Samarawickrama (61 off 35) and Imesha Dulani (55 off 40) hitting half centuries. Sultana Khatun (2/29) was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, Nahida Akter (1/26) and Rabeya Khan (0/21) providing good support in the middle overs.

Bangladesh openers got off to a good start with Dilara Akter (23 off 14) and Juairiya Ferdous (16 off 12) adding 39 runs in just 3.4 overs. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu got the first breakthrough with Malki Madara claiming 2 wickets in the next over which was a double wicket maiden. Debutant Mithali Bandara picked up a wicket in the 6th over as well.

From 44/4 at the end of the powerplay, Bangladesh could never recover with Shorna Akter's 60 in 45 balls the only fighting knock in the middle order. Besides the openers' 39 run partnership, Shorna and Sobhana Mostary (16 off 26) also added 39 for the 5th wicket. The 7th wicket partnership was also worth 37 runs with Shorna having Sultana Khatun (6* off 10) for support.

Skipper Athapaththu (2/19), Malki Madara (2/31) and Mithali Bandara (2/33) picked up 2 wickets each, Kavisha Dilhari (0/23) was wicketless but pretty economic. Stay tuned for the post match presentation.
Time for the Post-Match Presentations...
Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Women Captain): "(On the batting collapse) We started really well in the powerplay. Though we lost too many wickets in the fifth over. Shorna Akter batted really well in the middle.

(Any injury concerns to Mostary?) I don't think so, she is very consistent for the team. Today though was different. She tried to hand about and cover up later but it didn't happen. She will bounce back.

(Issues in the field) The fielding part is definitely concerning. We let many go by in the ODI series as well and we really need to tighten up in that area going forward."
Player of the Match: Harshitha Samarawickrama
Harshitha Samarawickrama (Player of the Match): [on her game] "I just play my normal game.

[on building the innings] I just play my normal game according to the situation.

[on Chamari] She is a legend, she shares her knowledge also. Great honor to play with her."
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "(On her bowling accuracy) I just try to keep things simple. That is the mantra. We try to execute well that's it. That's why we won the game.

(On the conditions) I feel the conditions were not that bad. The wicket was very good. The outfield wasn't that good because of the rain. However, we cannot make excuses as a professional team. We need to bat accordingly and as a team we played very well. We were aggressive in the powerplay and throughout the innings. That was very pleasing.

(On the youngsters and seniors getting along well in the team) As a Captain, I am very proud of my young girls and the seniors. The young girls need the seniors to guide them. I am proud of all of them. Especially Imesha Dulani, she has done really well for us in recent times. I hope we carry on the good work and play similarly in the World Cup as well."
That's it from our coverage of the WT20I series opener between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka! A good win for the visitors to start off the series.
