7:52 PM IST, 8:22 PM Local Time: Bangladesh script history winning their first ever bilateral ODI series against the World Champions Australia getting an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series, winning the rain hit encounter by 5 wickets!
Australia skipper Josh Inglis won the toss and opted to bat first bringing in Riley Meredith in the XI. The Bangladeshi opening bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman started off well keeping the score down to 0/3. Half centuries from Marnus Labuschagne (55* off 85 balls) and Xavier Bartlett (52 off 48) rescued Australia as they put 187/8 in 42 overs when rain arrived and play was halted for almost a couple of hours.
Bangladesh were set to win 192 in 41 overs according to DLS and lost Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the very first over as Bartlett chipped in the opening over. Soumya Sarkar (42 off 47) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (41 off 53) joined forces for the 2nd wicket and added 86 runs.
Both the batters were dismissed in quick succession, Litton Das could score 21 off 18 and was dismissed by Cameron Green off a bouncer. Towhid Hridoy lost Mosaddek Hossain at the other end as well but was joined by skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz who despite getting hit on the helmet stayed till the end and ensured his side finished on the winning side.
Miraz remained unbeaten with a run-a-ball 22 hitting a four and the winning six. Hridoy's unbeaten 40 had 2 fours and a six. Bartlett, Meredith, Adam Zampa, Matt Renshaw and Green all picked up a wicket apiece but failed to contain the scoring rate especially against the two partnerships between Sarkar & Shanto, and Mehidy and Hridoy.
