A final over low scoring thriller was on the cards here at Bay Oval as West Indies pulled off a thrilling victory by a mere 4 runs in the final over defending a paltry 140.
After restricting West Indies for a below par total, Bangladesh had a poor start as they lost both their openers in the first powerplay with wicketkeeper Shamima Sultana on a duck in the very first over.
Fargana Haqua alongside skipper Nigar Sultana then added 30 runs for the third wicket, the biggest partnership of the innings. Certainly something bigger was required for Bangladesh to pose a threat to the experienced Windies side but wickets kept falling at regular intervals .
Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 10-1-15-4. She got brilliant support from Afy Fletcher who picked up 3-29 in her ten overs alongside skipper Stafanie Taylor who finished off the proceedings with a three wicket haul of her own also picking up her 150th ODI wicket along the way.
Nahida Akter held one end and finished unbeaten at 25 off 64 deliveries as the Bangladesh batters swept whenever they got the chance to score the majority of their runs but loads of dot balls and wickets depleted their chase.
Stay tuned for the post match presentation.
