AND THE WHITE FERNS SEAL THE SERIES VICTORY HERE BY 2 WICKETS! New Zealand Women outclass West Indies Women in all departments of the game to march towards a comprehensive win! They will be elated with this series victory away from home!
West Indies Women won the toss and were elected to bat first. Hoping to put on runs on the board, the decision backfired heavily as the top order combined to make just 24 runs! The Kiwi bowlers put pressure early on and never let their foot off the pedal. Picking up wickets at regular intervals and choking the run flow, they managed to restrict the women from the Caribbean at a low total of 169/9 from their 50 overs.
Hayley Matthews played a captain's knock of 46 runs off 82 balls but she was unable to guide her team to a strong total. Carson was the pick of the bowlers as she finished with the figures of 3/31 from her 8 overs.
170 runs were needed, and the openers for the White Ferns came out in top fashion, hitting early boundaries that set the tone for the chase to follow. Even though the score was 32/2 after 7 overs, the game never looked out of reach for New Zealand Women.
Eventually, the middle order came good for Kiwis, as Maddy Green top scored with a final score of 48 runs off 78 balls, while she was aptly supported by Dawn and Halliday who ensured they took New Zealand through a safe path of victory. Selman picked up two wickets, but conceding runs at 6 an over with a low total was never going to be feasible. Ramharack picked up 3 wickets, and West Indies provided a late-innings scare but the Kiwis eventually came out on top.
Credit to New Zealand Women for putting on a dominant performance and making this win a walk in the park for them. West Indies Women will have to go back to the drawing board and look to improve in the games to follow.
