8:09 PM IST | So, we have the final update folks,
the match has been called off, and rain has had the final say. Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Bangladesh put on a phenomenal total of 349 runs in 50 overs, which is the highest-ever total posted by Bangladesh in an ODI match.
Their batting started off steadily, with a 42-run opening partnership. But it was Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto who really set things in motion, with a sensible and well-executed 101-run partnership for the second wicket. This laid the foundation for the rest of the team to build upon.
And build they did, with wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim putting on a truly impressive display. He not only scored a century but did so in the fastest ever for a Bangladesh player in an ODI match. With his brilliant performance, Bangladesh were able to post a mammoth 349 runs in the allotted 50 overs.
From the bowling front, Graham Hume shone with the ball for the visitors as he scalped three wickets and bowled two maiden overs in his allotted 10 overs.
Just as the first innings came to an end, it started to rain, and unfortunately, the game had to be abandoned. It was a disappointing end to what promised to be an exciting contest, and Rahim's excellent innings went in vain. Bangladesh lead the series 1-0, with the third and final match of the series set to be played on 23rd March.
