9:52 PM IST, 5:22 PM Local Time: A comprehensive victory for the London Spirit Women as they end the Women's Hundred 2023 Competition on a winning note. A miserable season for Birmingham Phoenix Women comes to an end as they lose the game by 73 runs and fail to win a single game in the competition.
The Phoenix Women had the daunting task of chasing 173 for victory. They didn't start well as they lost Sophie Devine in the very first set. Tess Flintoff also fell cheaply as both their openers were back in the hut quickly. Sterre Kalis looked good at the crease and played some fine shots. But the introduction of Sarah Glenn ended her 16-ball 28 knock. There were contributions from Amy Jones (14), Erin Burns (13), Evelyn Jones (12) but they failed to build big partnerships.
The Spirit Women kept picking wickets at regular intervals and didn't allow the Phoenix Women to get going. Eventually, the Phoenix Women got bundled out on 99 in 76 balls to lose the game by a big margin of 73 runs. Amelia Kerr was the standout bowler for Spirit as she registered figures of 4/13 in her 16 balls. Danielle Gibson and Sarah Glenn also chipped in with two scalps each as they completed a dominant victory over the hosts.
Earlier, it was the assault of Grace Harris that set the tone perfectly for the London Spirit Women. After being asked to bat first, Harris went berserk right from the start of her innings. She was well-supported by Danielle Gibson (18) at the top of the order. Harris continued playing her strokes and brought up her fifty in no time.
Richa Ghosh joined Harris and built a brilliant 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Ghosh fell on 29 while trying to up the ante but there was no stopping Harris at the other end. She hit some lusty blows at the fag end of the innings and scored 87 off just 47 balls to power the Spirit Women to 172 at the end of their innings. She smashed 13 fours and two maximums. Their bowlers then stepped up and defended the total successfully to end the tournament on a high.
