11:26 PM IST, 7:56 PM Local Time: Tony de Zorzi's magnificent ton set up a tremendous chase for South Africa in the low scoring second ODI at Gqeberha as the Proteas win by 8 wickets and level the 3-match series 1-1.
Aiden Markram flipped the coin in his favour and decided to bowl first. Nandre Burger's 3-wicket haul and supporting roles from Beuran Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Lizaad Williams and Aiden Markram helped bundle the Indian side for a paltry 211 in 46.2 overs.
The chase begun on the right note for the Proteas as both the openers started out cautiously adding just 39 runs in the first powerplay and added 130 runs for the first wicket with Hendricks holing out to Mukesh Kumar off the bowling of Arshdeep Singh after scoring 52 in 81 balls.
Hendricks was helped by a dropped chance with Ruturaj Gaikwad dropping a sitter in the slips but his partner Tony de Zorzi, after a shaky start brought out all the strokes in his book and converted his maiden ODI half century in a ton finishing unbeaten at 119 in 122 balls smashing 9 fours and 6 maximums in his knock.
Batting at number 3, Rassie van der Dussen started off in some brilliant fashion hitting a square drive for four and scored 36 in 51 balls to add 76 runs for the second wicket before getting out against debutant Rinku Singh.
The South African openers set up the chase too well and made the chase a cakewalk finishing the game with 45 deliveries to spare. Arshdeep (1/28) and Rinku (1/2) were the wicket takers for India with Axar Patel (0/22) bowling an economic but wicketless 6-over spell.
The teams will now face each other in the series decider on Thursday, December 21 at Paarl. Stay tuned for our post match coverage.
