After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Tammy Beaumont and Maia Boucher opened the innings for England Women. The duo added 37 runs for the first wicket before Bouchier was dismissed for 20 of 30 balls. Beaumont was then joined by skipper Heather Knight in the middle. After putting a partnership of 70 runs on the board, Knight got dismissed for 37 of 43 balls. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Alice Capsey and Danielle Wyatt couldn’t last long on the crease. England were then reduced to 166/7 in 36.1 overs when Amy Jones along with the lower order started building the innings. Amy scored 48 of 40 balls and was well supported by Sophie Ecclestone and Kate Cross, who scored 14 and 20 runs respectively to help their team post a total of 252/10 in 49 overs. Tammy Beaumont remained the only batter who completed her half-century and scored 81 of 96 balls.
For New Zealand, Jess Kerr, Lea Tahuhu, Fran Jonas and Suzie Bates took two wickets each while Hannah Rowe and Amelia Kerr picked one wicket each in the innings to get England Women all out before the completion of 50 overs.
With a target of 253 on board, Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer opened the innings for New Zealand. They faced an early setback as Plimmer was dismissed for 7 of 11 balls and Suzie managed to score 28 of 37 balls. At one point, when they were down to 66/4 in 19.3 overs, Brooke Halliday and Isabella Gaze started building up a partnership. The duo added 100 runs for the fifth wicket before Gaze got run out for 47 of 48 balls. Brooke was next to get dismissed for 57 of 90 balls. With little contribution from the lower order and Bernadine Bezuidenhout not coming to bat because of an injury, New Zealand fell short by 56 runs to reach the target as they lost all their wickets for just 196 runs on board.
For England, Nat Sciver-Brunt was the pick of the bowler who took 3/21 in 7 overs. Kate Cross, Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone and Charlotte Dean picked one wicket each in the innings while the other two taken through run-out.
