Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first and trudged their way to 112/6 with Sterre Kalis (47 off 45) and Richa Ghosh (41 off 36) the only batters to get a substantial score. Nat Sciver-Brunt (2/16) and Ash Gardner (2/17) starring with the ball for Rockets.
The chase didn't begin as the Rockets would have fancied losing 2 wickets for 20 runs inside the powerplay. Grace Scrivens (19) and skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (34 off 25) added 33 runs for the 3rd wicket with the captain then adding a further 36 with Gardner (20 off 12) to strengthen the team's position.
A middle order collapse beckoned with Sciver-Brunt, Heather Graham, Gardner and Alana King departing in quick time. With 12 required in 13 deliveries and 3 wickets in hand, Katie George and Josie Groves pulled out a heist in an exciting chapter of play with the latter hitting a boundary to finish the game with 3 balls to spare.
Emily Arlott and Charis Pavely both bowled in the death really well finishing with identical figures of 2/21. Issy Wong (1/15) impressed in the first match of her season with Katie Levick (1/25) also getting an early wicket. Hannah Baker (0/17) was wicketless but helped to contain the scoring in her 15-ball spell.
