6:17 PM IST, 13:47 Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Welsh Fire Women as they secure their place in the playoffs of the ongoing Women's Hundred. They surpassed Brave's total with 9 wickets in hand and 26 balls to spare.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, the Southern Brave Women got off to a shaky start as they lost wickets in clusters from the outset and were reeling at 47/7 in 59 balls. Chloe Tryon and Rhianna Southby started the rescue mission, and the pair did a tremendous job to put the batting back on track. They added 50+ runs for the eighth wicket and propelled Brave’s score to 103 runs. Tryon contributed a valuable 55 runs off 38 balls, while Southby scored 15 runs off 17 balls, playing the second fiddle in the partnership.
Hayley Matthews wreaked havoc with the ball for Welsh Fire, claiming four wickets for just 14 runs in her spell. Jess Jonassen also proved too hot to handle for Brave batters, with the left-arm spinner grabbing three wickets. Freya Davies and Shabnim Ismail contributed 2 and 1 wickets, respectively, to Brave’s downfall.
In pursuit of 103 runs, Tammy Beaumont provided a rollicking start to Welsh Fire. She took on Brave bowlers and scored briskly but didn’t get support from Sophia Dunkley, who looked sluggish and departed for just 7 runs off 9 balls.
Hayley Matthews (35* off 26) joined Beaumont (59* off 40) at number three and the pair kept moving the scoreboard rapidly, and the latter notched up her fifty in the process. They added an unbeaten 72 runs for the second wicket and helped their side cross the line with 26 balls to spare.
Lauren Bell was the only Southern Brave bowler to take a wicket.
