1:49 AM IST & 4:19 PM Local Time| West Indies have hammered Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI and have clinched the series with a game to go. A thumping win by 7 wickets for the hosts with 79 balls to spare!
Bangladesh were put into bat by Shai Hope. After an initial burst from Tanzid Hasan, Jayden Seales turned the tide with 3 wickets in the first 10 overs. Bangladesh was shaken, losing 4 more wickets for just 61 runs, leaving them struggling at 115/7 in the 26th over.
However, Mahmudullah and Sakib had other plans. They took their time and built a record 92-run partnership for the 8th wicket. Chase eventually dismissed Sakib for 45 runs off 62 balls. Sakib was soon followed back to the pavilion by Mahmudullah, slashing a shot straight to deep point, giving Seales his 4th scalp of the day.
A last-wicket cameo from Shoriful Islam, scoring 15 runs off 8 balls, helped Bangladesh surpass the 225-run mark, setting a competitive total. Jayden Seales was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 4/22 from his 10 overs.
Bangladesh was eventually bundled out for 227 in 45.5 overs. The Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led side had to bowl well to defend a below par total.
In reply, the Windies openers began cautiously. Brandon King was in fine form, providing a solid start during the powerplay. His partner, Evin Lewis, initially struggled to find his rhythm but eventually hit his stride in the latter half of the powerplay.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz's captaincy came under scrutiny as he set a defensive field immediately after the powerplay. This strategy backfired, as Bangladesh couldn't break the opening partnership early on.
Brandon King and Evin Lewis built a formidable 109-run opening partnership, shifting the momentum entirely in favor of the hosts. Rishad Hossain eventually broke the partnership by dismissing Evin Lewis for 49. Lewis had taken a painful blow in the previous over and was visibly struggling at the crease.
Bangladesh had an opportunity to claw back into the game. The pitch at Warner Park was excellent for batting, and the new Windies batters settled in comfortably. Keacy Carty looked solid at the crease. He and Brandon King (82) put together a 66-run partnership for the 2nd wicket before King was dismissed by Nahid Rana. Against the run of play, Keacy Carty was sent back to the pavilion by Afif Hossain for 45.
The man in-form Sherfane Rutherford along with his skipper, Shai Hope finished off the game for the Windies as the Men in Maroon have comfortably won the 2nd ODI by 7 wickets! This is their first series win in ODIs against Bangladesh since 2014. Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation!
