4:48 PM IST & Local Time | ALL OVER! Maharashtra win by 70 runs and become the first team to enter into the semi finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. The dug out is pumped up and hugs all around. A clinical performance from them today with all of their players contributing to the win.
Here is how the Quarter final game panned out.
Opting to bowl first, Punjab started brilliantly with the new ball and picked up two early wickets credit to Arshdeep Singh who was top notch as usual. They struggled to pick up wickets in the middle overs and leaked too many in the end.
Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for them and ended his 9 over spell with the figures of 56/3. Naman Dhir was also good and picked up 2 wickets in his 7-over spell. They restricted Maharashtra to 275 which was a chaseable total but failed to do so.
For Maharashtra, they lost some early wickets in the powerplay but Arshin Kulkarni was brilliant at the top and scored 107 runs off 137 balls. Ankit Bawne was also solid in the middle order and scored 60 off 85 balls. In the end, Nikhil Naik played a brilliant knock of 52* runs off just 29 balls and helped his side cross the 270-mark.
Coming to the chase, Mukesh Choudhary got good swing in the powerplay and made it count as he picked up 3 wickets sending back the star openers & Nehal Wadhera. Punjab never really recovered from that, as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter.
The medium pace duo of Dadhe & Arshin kept on bowling a disciplined line and length and kept the run flow dried up post the powerplay. There were some small partnerships here and there, but Maharashtra were always ahead in the game in the 2nd innings.
The spinners Bachhav & Kazi did a good job too as they kept the run flow in check. Arshdeep Singh's batting was highlight for Punjab as he scored 49 runs and missed his maiden half century by just 1 run. Stay around for the presentations.
