The atmosphere here in Dambulla is decidedly gloomy now, where the dark, low-hanging clouds suggest we are in for a long evening. The 'waiting game' continues for the players and the fans alike, as the ground staff remains on high alert and the match officials keep a close eye on the radar. 6:50 PM IST, Local Time: An inspection is underway at the moment in Dambulla. However, the rain has returned soon after, forcing the covers back on. The waiting game continues.

7:30 PM IST, Local Time: It is pelting down now at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium and the chances of a game looks very bleak at the moment.

7:47 PM IST, Local Time: It is still raining in Dambulla. We will have the next official update in 13 minutes. 

8 PM IST, Local Time: Live pictures show that the rain continues to fall in Dambulla. The covers are still firmly in place. Russell Arnold, on air, says 10:16 PM IST, Local Time is the latest we can start a 5-over per-side game. He further adds that the rain has to stop in the next half-an-hour for the ground staff to get the ground ready. 

8:22 PM IST, LOCAL TIME: ALAS!!! Nothing new to report from Dambulla as the rain continues to pour and the covers remain placed firmly intact across the square. The gloomy conditions persist, leaving the ground staff and players in a state of forced patience under the rain-streaked floodlights. The wait stretches on for everyone involved, with the weather currently holding all the cards for this second T20I. Strap in for more updates!!

8:39 PM IST, Local Time: The inevitable has happened here in Dambulla. The rain has not stopped, barring a few minutes. The 2nd T20I between Sri Lanka and Pakistan has been abandoned due to rain.

So, yeah, the persistent rain in Dambulla has won the day, and the second T20I has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. With no signs of the drizzle relenting and the ground fully saturated, the umpires had no choice but to call it off, leaving the series scoreline frozen at 1-0 in favor of Pakistan. This result ensures that Pakistan cannot lose the series, while Sri Lanka's hopes of a series win have officially evaporated.

The stakes now shift dramatically to the final showdown, where the hosts will be desperate to salvage a draw and level the series, whereas Pakistan will look to clinical finish with a 2-0 victory. All roads now lead to the series finale right here on Sunday, 11th January, where we hope the weather gods are much more kind!
