Full, wide of off stump, there to be put away. Not for number 11 Adam Finch, though - he backs away, clears his front leg and has a swish, meets thin air again.

OFF-STUMP'S KNOCKED OUT OF THE GROUND, AND SOMERSET ARE THROUGH TO THE QUARTER-FINALS of the 2026 T20 Blast! Meredith goes full and straight this time, aiming for off stump. Finch clears his front leg and looks to swing at it, is nowhere near making contact with the ball, and sees his off stump fly out of the ground! A 78-run win for Somerset, and boy, are their faithful folks at Taunton pleased about it!

SOM won by 78 runs
1:45 AM IST & 9:15 PM Local Time: That's the end of the contest! A commanding performance from Somerset here in Taunton as they outclass Worcestershire by 78 runs. A dominant display with both bat and ball sees Somerset seal a convincing victory and book their place in the Quarter-Finals.

Earlier in the day, Worcestershire won the toss and elected to field first. Somerset got off to an explosive start as the opening pair of Thomas Rew and Will Smeed launched an all-out assault, putting together a 75-run opening stand inside the Powerplay. Thomas Rew’s blistering innings ended on 42, while Smeed went on to complete a fine half-century before departing for 52. Useful contributions from James Rew (28 off 24) and Lewis Gregory (28 off 16) ensured Somerset posted a commanding 194/7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Worcestershire made a promising start, with Isaac Mohammed and Henry Cullen finding boundaries regularly in the early overs. However, both openers fell in quick succession inside the Powerplay as Worcestershire reached 52/2 after six overs. They desperately needed a partnership to stabilize the chase, but Somerset tightened the screws brilliantly after the field restrictions ended, picking up wickets at regular intervals and forcing the asking rate to climb.

From 58/2, Worcestershire suffered a dramatic collapse to 107/6, and the game quickly slipped out of their hands. Skipper Gareth Roderick fought hard with 39 off 28 balls, but his dismissal at a crucial stage ended any hopes of a comeback. Requiring 87 runs from the final six overs with only four wickets in hand, Worcestershire were eventually bundled out for 116 in 16 overs. Jack Leach (3/20) and Riley Meredith (3/17) starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each as Somerset sealed a dominant 78-run victory and booked their place in the Quarter-Finals.
Jack Leach has been adjudged Player of the Match!
Jack Leach (Player of the Match): "(How was the experience today?) Unfortunately, Josh Thomas had a migraine, so I had to fill in for him; he's been doing great. The support was amazing; I felt that they were behind me, loved it.

(On what he made of their total after the first innings ended) Didn't have a clue; I knew the wicket would be flat here. I think it's been so dry, maybe a little bit slower and two-paced, became clear that it was a really good score. The opening partnership between T Rew and Smeed has been going so great. They were amazing to get us off to a flier.

(On how he goes about his business in T20s) I'm still learning, really, just trying to mix it up and get some read on how the batters are going. Trying to understand my strengths, very much a learning process. Lewis Gregory helps me out for sure as captain, and Golds (Goldsworthy) at the other end was helpful in terms of the pressure he put on the batters."
That's all we have for you from the final league-stage game of the season! The knockout line-up is now complete, and the eight teams through to the Quarter-Finals are: Northamptonshire, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Somerset, Surrey, Essex and Gloucestershire.

The defending champions, Somerset, have ended the league phase in style, hammering Worcestershire with a commanding victory here in Taunton.

Attention now turns to the Quarter-Finals, with all four knockout clashes set to be played on Wednesday, 15th July. The road to Finals Day is well and truly underway! For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Rajarshi Das who, along with scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma brought all the actions of this clash.
