Guyana Amazon Warriors

2/19
Earlier in the game, Imran Tahir won the toss and invited the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons to bat. Khary Pierre led the charge with the ball, taking two wickets in his first two overs. The Falcons were 49 for 2 at the end of powerplay.
7:12 AM IST, 9:42 PM Local Time: The chase from Guyana Amazon Warriors was as rapid as the spell from Shamar Joseph. They chased down the 117-run target without breaking a sweat and got over the line with more than 10 overs to spare. How often do we see such domination in T20 cricket?
Player of the Match: Khary Pierre
Khary Pierre (POTM): "[What pleases him the most tonight?] I think it was a great bowling effort from everyone. The backroom staff gave us a plan and we stuck to it. I think it was a rellly good bowling performance from each and every one.

[Elaborate that plan] The plan was to keep things simple. We know there's a threat in Rahkeem Cornwall. I think his wicket is very important for us, for their team to get off to a good start. For me, it was about trying to stick to my lengths and my process and I did that, so I am happy.

[Secret of success] Not to get too flustered; I believe in my process. I just try to keep it really simple and I am really thankful.

[On playing for Guyana] It has been great. They welcomed me with open arms, and I want to thank the Guyana franchise for having me also. The son of this soil, Gudakesh Motie, he's a favourite, but that's the nature of franchise cricket, I just want to come here and play my role. My role and just make sure I do my role to the best of my ability."
Moeen Ali (Antigua & Barbuda Falcons Captain): "[Sum up the game for us] A bad day at the office. Obviously, in all three facets of the game we were poor, especially with the bat. You can't be 90 for 4 and then 116 all out. It can happen in T20 cricket. I thought they bowled, take nothing away from them, they bowled really, really well. Obviously, pace and good quality spinners, and we got a couple of wickets, but they were class.

[On volatility of T20 cricket] It can happen in T20 cricket. You got to brush yourself and go again whenever the game comes again. It was a tough day, tough result, but like I said, it happens. We're going to try and stay as calm as we can. We're in a good position still. Win a few more games and hopefully qualify.

[On Shadab] Yeah, yeah. He's done a little bit of groin and so we need to be careful, we have got a couple of big games coming up.

[Message to the team] Just not get too down. I mean, in cricket you get beat badly sometimes against quality teams, but it's sometimes good to get humbled. We had two very, very good results, and sometimes you need these kind of results just to get you back into sort of being a bit more humble about things, and it just tells you that you can get beat by anybody at any time.

[Any positives?] Not really, to be honest. No positives. They were better than us in all facets, and just a bad day."
Imran Tahir (Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain): "[Satisfied with the performance tonight?] Yeah, satisfied, very happy with the performance we put out there today. They've been playing really good cricket. They won two last of their games, and I think we came up with a better planning today. We've been watching. Obviously, we had time to see and reflect what we need to improve on. Today's a complete performance, but I think there is still a few things we need to improve on, so make sure if there is a couple of mistakes we make, then we won't do it going forward in the next game.

[Is this team where you want them to be at that stage?] Yeah, definitely. Playing all the away games, I think it's a big bonus if you're winning on the road, and when you go home, then you always have a home advantage. Most importantly, there are certain people who stay behind the scene and they never get the credit, and I think Prasanna Agoram is one of the guys, who's our analyst. He studied, I mean, whole Caribbean. He's been with us for last three years and the work, amount of work he put in, give us all the stats, all the plans and stuff like that. It won't come easy, and I think he put it up front of the team, and we all agreed as a bowling group, and we thought that obviously if we bowl first, that's how we're gonna go about our business. That helps a lot. Sometimes you don't know some different plans, but I think we have to appreciate his work. He's been doing a great job for our team.

[Does he rely on his gut feel to pick which bowler to bowl when?] Yeah, there are a lot of times. I think even the management and coaches weren't expecting that, you know, and I had to bring somebody like I did with Glenn Phillips today, and we got a wicket. But I think that's how cricket works sometimes. You have to sometimes play according to the conditions. If two left-handers are batting, your best bet to bowl is probably an off-spinner. I tried that and we picked up a wicket. But I think Shamar has been the star for us, with Pretorius and Shephard. They set a standard for us going into the middle overs. Khary Pierre, another name. I was telling him after the game, at the break time, that it's so difficult, and I was feeling bad that I didn't give you your two overs. And I was probably in the same circle because I was thinking that I would probably bowl Shamar or Shepherd, but then I had to bowl one over. So, like I said, it's great teamwork. I think we're very happy for each other's success, and I think that's what the Guyana Amazon Warriors is all about. We had great support today. I just want to say thanks to the fans again, and for their support from all over, wherever they are.

[On the reason behind his celebration being still so passionate] Yeah, look, I think I came into proper professional cricket late, and especially white-ball cricket. When I was a kid, I always dreamed that one day, if I belonged on this stage where I could show my talent, I wanted to celebrate like it was my last wicket. I think that's what I'm enjoying the most - having family around, trying to inspire my son and all the kids all over the world. I hope they learn something. For me, I don't want to give up till I'm bowling well and I'm moving around in the field. And if I can give something back, that would be really great. That's how I've always thought throughout my career.

[On the match against Trinbago Knight Riders] Yeah, look, it's a big clash. Everyone knows that it's a big game. They have some world-class players, as do we. So I think it depends on who's going to perform well on the day. We're ready for it. We've been playing good cricket. We want to stay humble. Once we get there, we want to show what we've got.
Biggest Wins for Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL (By Balls Remaining)

61 vs Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, North Sound, 2026 (TONIGHT)*

60 vs St Lucia Kings, Gros Islet, 2024

57 vs Jamaica Tallawahs, Kingston, 2017
That was a demolition job well done by the Guyana Amazon Warriors as they brushed aside the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons by seven wickets to go to the top of the points table. The bowlers set it up by bowling out the Falcons for 116, and then Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope didn't give them a sniff of a comeback.
We will have a day's break in the ongoing edition of the CPL before the action continues in North Sound, where Antigua & Barbuda Falcons will square off against Barbados Tridents. Do join us for our live coverage of that fixture.

But the action doesn't stop on Crickxo. We have plenty of action coming your way, starting with Day 2 of the second Test between Sri Lanka and India. There are two Duleep Trophy games going on as well, along with plenty of action from various T20 leagues.
For now, this is Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues Manan Mehta and Bishal Mandal. Goodbye!!!
