7PM IST: A consolation win for Bangladesh by 50 runs to end the series on a high. They go down in the series 1-2 but take plenty of confidence and momentum going into the 3 T20I series. They will have one man to thank for this win and that is their number 1 All rounder Shakib Al Hasan. The other played their part, but he was a cut above the rest.
Chasing a gettable 247 on a tricky surface, England got off to a solid start courtesy of their openers Jason Roy and Phil Salt. They put on 54 for the first wicket. But after the first wicket fell, there were starts from others, but no one kicked on as Bangladesh kept it tight. Phil Salt scored 35 off 25 balls while Jason Roy got 19. James Vince got a good 38. Sam Curran promoted up the order got 23. Skipper Jos Buttler scored 26 off 24 balls. Chris Woakes was the last man to go for 34 off 46 balls as England were bowled out for 196 in 43.1 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan was the star for Bangladesh with exceptional figures of 4/35 in 10 overs. He was ably supported by Ebadot Hossain 2/38 in 9 overs. Taijul got a couple of wickets in his 10 overs 2/52. A wicket for Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur picked up the last wicket.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost Litton Das for a bronze duck. Skipper Tamim Iqbal joined him back to the hut as he scored just 11 runs off 6 balls. But it was Shanto who rescued the innings with his 53 off 71 balls before being run-out. Mushfiqur Rahim supported him and carried on further with 70 off 93 balls. Then it was that man again Shakib Al Hasan who carried on his good work and scored a brilliant 75 off 71 balls to take Bangladesh to 246 in 48.5 overs, He fell towards the end of the innings.
All the English bowlers bowled well. Jofra Archer got 3 wickets in the end. A couple of wickets at the start for Sam Curran. Adil Rashid bowled 5 overs but got 2 wickets to his name. Chris Woakes got a wicket and so did the debutant Rehan Ahmed who went for 62 runs in his 10 overs. They bowled decently to keep Bangladesh down to under 250.
