New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Nahid Rana's 5/32 - his second best ODI performance - set up the game for Bangladesh as New Zealand were folded for 198 in 48.4 overs. Nick Kelly top scored with 83 at the top of the order with the next best score being 19 off Muhammad Abbas.
Bangladesh kick started the chase in attacking manner adding 8 runs in the first over before Saif Hassan was dismissed on the last ball by Nathan Smith. Soumya Sarkar at number 3 hit a maximum early on but was dismissed right afterwards by William O'Rourke for 8.
Opener Tanzid Hasan (76 off 58) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (50 off 71) took the side forward with a 120-run stand for the third wicket. Jayden Lennox got the prized wicket of Tanzid after the opener smashed 10 fours and 4 sixes.
Shanto suffered from cramps and retired hurt in the 29th over. Litton Das in his 100th ODI appearance could add only 7 in 11 balls. Towhid Hridoy at number 6 hit an unbeaten 30 off 31 balls and took the side home in the 36th over with skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz at the other end facing 25 balls for his 8.
Lennox was the pick of the bowlers with 2/36, bowling 2 maidens in his 9-over spell. O'Rourke (1/41) and Smith (1/46) picked up a wicket apiece but were expensive. We will be back in a short while for the post match presentation.

Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): (On whether 198 was enough) “No, I think Bangladesh applied a lot of pressure, especially in the first 10 overs. We never managed to build partnerships, which made it difficult. Defending 200, you need early wickets. We took a couple, but credit to the way they played with intent and put us under pressure straight away.
(On Nick Kelly’s innings of 83) Nick Kelly played outstandingly well. For someone who hasn’t played much in these conditions, he handled the early pressure and then put some pressure back on Bangladesh. If we had a little more support around him, perhaps another 30-50 runs could have made a difference. The surface showed similar characteristics to the previous game. It became a little slower as the innings went on.
(On the series decider in Chattogram) It’s a new ground for us and one we haven’t played at for a long time, so adapting quickly will be important. We know it will be another challenge, but that’s why we play professional cricket - to be in these moments. We’ll prepare well over the next couple of days and hopefully give it a really good effort in the decider.”
