FOUR RUNS! Shanto finishes off with a boundary, a six-wicket win for Bangladesh to kick start the series. Full and outside the off stump. Picks it up nicely. Lofts it up and over extra cover and finds the vacant boundary.
BAN won by 6 wickets
21:48 IST and 22:18 Local Time | Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto helped his team to get a comprehensive victory by leading from the front with his unbeaten on 122 run knock. He got the assistance from his experienced partner Mushfiqur Rahim.

Sri Lanka got off to a good start after being put to bat first. Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando got off to a fiery start in the powerplay. But Tanzim Sakib took three wickets in a quick succession by removing Nissanka(36), Avishka Fernando(33) and Sadeera Samarawickrama(3). But after Sri Lanka got down to 128 for 4, Kusal Mendis and Janith Liyanage stitched a 69 run partnership between them to help their team to get some runs on the board. Mendis got dismissed for 59 after facing 75 balls with 5 boundaries and a maximum. Janith Liyanage continued to collect short runs and assembled 67 runs facing 69 balls hitting 3 boundaries and a couple of maximums. But after Mendis and Liyanage's dismissal, the lower order failed to contribute. Only Wanindu Hasaranga reached double digit score(13) and Sri Lanka got bundled out for 255.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the star of the show picking up 3 wickets for 44 runs. Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed also took 3 wickets each while Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the other wicket.

Coming to chase the run, Bangladesh lost Litton Das in the very first ball of the innings of Dilshan Madushanka. They also lost the other opener Soumya Sarkar(3) cheaply. After a few minutes of resistance, the Bangladesh dug out saw Towhid Hridoy(3) coming back to the changing room. Bangladesh were 23 for 3 when skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah Riyad started to counter attack. They threw the pressure to the Lankan bowlers by hitting a flurry of boundaries. The partnership between them for the 4th wicket was of 69 runs. Mahumudullah got out contributing crucial 37 runs. Shanto carried the innings forward and got to his fifty in just 52 balls, his 3rd consecutive fifty against Sri Lanka in ODIs. He and the well experienced Rahim took the chase forward with their sensible batting. Najmul Hossain Shanto reached to his 3rd ODI hundred in 108 balls and Mushfiqur Rahim also got his half-century. They stitched a gargantuan 165 run partnership between them and clinched a comprehensive victory. Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 122 off 129 balls. He decorated his innings with 13 boundaries and 2 sixes. Mushfiqur Rahim gave him the perfect company and remained unbeaten on 73 facing 84 balls with 8 boundaries.

For the visitors, Dilshan Madushanka took a couple of wickets for 44 runs. Lahiru Kumara and Pramod Madushan took a wicket each.
Time for the post match presentations.
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain)- "Pathum and Avishka batted really well in the first 10 overs but our middle order struggled after that and we got bundled out for 255. I think something around 280 would have been a safe score for us and I think we will do better in the next game. We did well in the bowling in the first 10 overs well and we expected our spinners to do well. Hopefully we will comeback stronger."
Player of the Match- Najmul Hossain Shanto
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Player of the Match, Bangladesh Captain): "We knew that with the new ball it will be hard. I backed my skill and took some time. Later the wicket was good because of dew.

Taskin and Shoriful tried but it was hard for them. They made a good comeback. The way Mahmudullah started his innings, it helped me a lot. After Mushi showed his experience, we all know how capable he is. I hope he will continue his form."
That marks the end of our coverage from the 1st ODI of the ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. This is myself, Saptak Sanyal signing off on the behalf of my co-commentators Ninaad Dixit and Sidharth Gulati and our scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Good night.
