09:40 AM IST, 12:10 AM Local Time: What a fantastic finish from Sherfane Rutherford as his three consecutive sixes seals the match for the Barbados Royals by 7 wickets and six balls to spare. With this result, TKR will have to rely on other results to see if they finish in the Top 2!
Chasing 167 for victory, the Royals got off to a fiery start with both Quinton de Kock and Kadeem Alleyne looking in great touch. Nicholas Pooran also didn't help his own team's cause as he dropped Alleyne off Sunil Narine's bowling in the sixth over with the Royals finishing the Powerplay at 62/0. The opening duo of Alleyne and de Kock continued to bat nicely before the former was caught superbly at long-on by Andre Russell with Akeal Hosein breaking the 87-run partnership.
In the next over, de Kock got to his fifty off 31 balls but the run-scoring in general came down with Rassie van der Dussen also struggling to get going. The pressure paid off with de Kock perishing off Usman Tariq's bowling at the start of the 13th over. The TKR openers completely strangled the Royals with Tariq going onto dismiss Rassie in his next over with the South African making only 7 off 15 balls.
Kieron Pollard also ended up conceding just four runs off the 16th over as the game started to slip away from the Royals' reach. However, with 45 required off 24 balls, Rovman Powell got stuck into Andre Russell's bowling as he took 18 runs off the 17th over. Then, Saurabh Netravalkar delivered a cracking over conceding only six runs as the game continued to twist and turn.
The Royals needed 21 off the last 12 balls while Rutherford took a single off the first ball. Powell, then, struck a six off the second ball before giving the strike to Rutherford who finished off the match with three consecutive sixes.
Earlier in the match, TKR had a poor Powerplay as Chris Green removed the opening duo of Alex Hales and Colin Munro cheaply while Daniel Sams accounted for Joshua Da Silva's wicket. The visitors finished the Powerplay at 34/3 and soon lost Keacy Carty with Green getting his third scalp before finishing his spell with figures of 3/9.
The in-form Kieron Pollard counter-attacked immediately as he helped TKR take 20 runs off the ninth over bowled by Zishan Motara. Yet, the run-scoring remained below-par especially with Pooran batting at run-a-ball for the majority of his innings. Pollard, on the other hand, had a great battle with Ramon Simmonds with the youngster winning it as he had the legendary Trinidadian caught at deep backward square-leg in the 16th over.
A couple of overs later, Daniel frustrated Andre Russell and eventually had him caught at backward point. Simmonds followed it up with a fantastic penultimate over which made it doubtful as to whether TKR will even get to 150. Initially, Rovman Powell's decision to bowl Sherfane Rutherford looked like a masterstroke as he had Pooran caught at long-off on the first delivery. But, Akeal Hosein struck a boundary, followed by a wide after which the southpaw smashed three consecutive sixes to help TKR finish with 166/8!
