2:45 PM IST and Local Time : Bengal have got two outright victories from their two home games and are at the second position of the points table with 12 points. They are coming out with flying colours by 141 runs.
Earlier Bengal came to bat first and got off to a good start as Sudip Gharami played a good counter attacking fifty. His effort was later replicated by Abishek Porel and Sumanta Gupta. Abishek Porel got out just after completing his fifty but Sumanta stood tall and scored 63 runs facing 115 balls hitting 9 boundaries. A little cameo from Akash Deep of 29 runs took the team score to 279. For Gujarat, Siddharth Desai was the pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets.
Gujarat came to bat and lost their openers. Manan Hingrajia however showed the resistance. Despite losing his partners at the other end, it was his unbeaten 80-run knock that curtailed the first innings deficit to 112. Shahbaz Ahmed was the star of the Bengal bowling picking up 6 wickets. Shami took 3 wickets.
In the third innings of the game, Sudip Kumar Gharami got another fifty but got dismissed soon after completing his half century. Later Anustup Majumdar notched his 25th First Class fifty to top score for Bengal with his 58. Akash Deep and Shahbaz Ahmed played a couple of quickfire innings to help Bengal post 214/8 when Easwaran decided to declare.
With a target of 327 runs to chase, Gujarat got a jolt in the very first ball of the innings losing Abhishek Desai. But Urvil Patel and Aarya Desai had other plans. They decided to give the counterpunch and they added 49 runs for the second wicket in just 41 balls. Akash Deep removed Aarya and then Shahbaz got the better of Manan Hingrajia for a golden duck and reduced Gujarat to 50/3.
Urvil Patel and Jaymeet Patel the took the charge. Urvil was playing in his natural game while Jaymeet was reticent in his approach. When they were batting, the partnership looked to be perilous for Bengal. They were scoring runs steadily and added 103 for the 4th wicket. The game turned upside down when Urvil retired hurt because of his cramps. That opened the floodgates for Bengal. Umang Kumar outside edged to Anustup off Shahbaz. Chintan Gaja offered a simple catch to Sumanta in the very same over. Shami returned to the attack and dismissed Vishal Jayswal and Gujarat were on 162 for 6.
Shami was on fire and he ran a carnage. He then removed the well set Jaymeet Patel and Siddharth Desai. Despite Urvil Patel's comeback, Gujarat were helpless. Shami removed Nagwaswalla in the first ball after the tea break and in the next over, Easwaran ran Priyajeet Jadeja to get the victory for Bengal.
Urvil Patel batted marvellously. He played his strokes and kept the bowlers at bay. He remained unbeaten on 109 off 124 balls but his efforts were not enough as he hardly got any second fiddle from his teammates.
Mohammed Shami finished with 5 for 38. Shahbaz Ahmed took 3 wickets conceding 60 runs.
