Yet another thriller unfolds at this iconic venue, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats till the very end. The 21-year-old debutant Tom Balkin delivers a magnificent final over, holding his nerve under immense pressure, picking up two crucial wickets and defending 10 runs. The Brisbane Heat hold on to win by 7 runs in a dramatic finish.
Earlier in the day, the Strikers won the bat flip and chose to field first. Brisbane Heat got off to a shaky start with the early loss of Jack Wildermuth in the second over of the innings. Luke Wood then made an impact in his second over, removing Colin Munro for a quick 14 off 9 balls to put the Heat under early pressure. Brisbane Heat struggled to build sustained momentum in their innings, as every time they looked set for a push, a wicket seemed to fall. That pattern defined their batting effort throughout the 20 overs.
Matt Renshaw played an important role in the middle, but his dismissal for 33 off 21 balls in the ninth over halted a promising phase. Max Bryant then stepped up with a superb knock down the order, top-scoring with a blistering 63 off 32 balls despite limited support from the other end. Xavier Bartlett (POTM & Brisbane Heat Captain): "Very tensed. Young captain, you know in those moment, had a lot of senior heads around me sort of calmed me down. I thought Tom Balkin on debut was unbelievable, he bowled the tough overs. To close out there, was outstanding.
Yeah, I thought you know just trying to get my overs out of the way and just back the boys and especially, in the end. Balkin bowled well with his pace, I think he is going to be a really good bowler for us going forward.
