Matthew Renshaw (POTM): "Can't quite believe it. A bit of a pinch-me moment. A lots of goosebumps. An incredible effort.
I think a lot of people probably wrote us off at the halfway mark. We might as well have after losing a wicket on the first ball. But having Wildermuth at the other end was massive for us. I’ll definitely be sharing this with him; he deserves probably half of it, maybe more.
That never-say-die attitude made all the difference. It was one of those strange ones where we didn’t talk too much. It was more about taking the right options at the right time. Seeing the ball and hitting it where you needed to was our plan.
Wildermuth has done really well leading into this. Opening the batting has been a great opportunity for him, and boy, he’s taken it brilliantly tonight.
It was mainly about trusting yourself. I hit the indoor nets during the break, and honestly, I was hitting them terribly. But we had a bit of luck on our side tonight as well. It was just about keeping things simple.
We knew the pitch was a good one for batting after what they did with the bat, and that gives you confidence that a chase like this was possible.
T20 cricket was always something people said I wasn’t very good at. So it’s nice to be able to produce something like this and show my range. I probably played a couple of bad shots in there, but I managed to middle a few and get the match-ups I wanted. It was pretty nice to bat on. There was a bit of tennis-ball bounce. That first ball Munro got looked like it exploded to the naked eye.
Jhye Richardson is obviously a very good bowler. So, I was a bit nervous walking out, thought I might get my shoulder ripped off, but it started to skid on nicely. We know how strong their attack is, but it was just one of those nights. It’s about taking this momentum with us for the next game. A few guys haven’t contributed much in the first couple of games, but in this competition, you need your whole squad. With some players unsure about fitness, everyone’s going to be needed. I think the moustache has to stay now, sorry mate, I know you don’t like it (chuckles)."
