9:38 AM IST and 3:08 PM Local Time: The Adelaide Strikers almost made an embarrassing mess of this match. The Brisbane Heat almost got a miraculous win under their belt. However, ALMOST! The Strikers hold their nerve and get across the line in a dramatic fashion.
The Heat were put into the bat first. They were struck early with a barrage of dot balls and a few wickets hid in them. They found themselves 58-4 and soon 80-5 in 13.3 overs. That is when a small counter punch came from the bat of Annie O'Neil and Chinelle Henry before both departed in quick succession. From 105-5 they once again slipped to 121-8 in the fear of getting bowled out soon. That is when number 10 batter Nicola Hancock played an absolute blinder scoring an 8 ball 22 to propel her team to 150. For the Strikers, Tahlia McGrath was the key bowler for her 3-27 in four overs. Eleanor Larosa too bowled well for her 2-24.
The Strikers did not look too perturbed by the last flourish from Hancock and approached the chase beautifully to start with. Tammy Beaumont and Laura Wolvaardt struck a beautiful 99 run opening stand. Beaumont was the aggressor today and played some finger-licking shots. Her 64 off just 40 balls made matters very easy for the Strikers before she was dismissed. All of a sudden from 99-0, the Strikers were 100-2 as Madeline Penna could not contribute much as well. However, with the rate in control, Laura Wolvaardt and Tahlia McGrath got back normalcy with some matured batting.
It came down to 18 runs off 17 balls and that is when the panic broke out. Wolvaardt got dismissed for 49. The next 11 balls, only 4 runs were scored and 2 wickets fell. Lucy Hamilton bowled a gem of a penultimate over bringing the equation down to 14 off the last over. Any excitement that must have erupted in the Heat's camp though was extinguished soon as Ellie Johnston and McGrath with a couple of hits each, sealed the deal for the Strikers. The Heat remain winless despite putting up a good performance today!
