11:10 PM IST, Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Jaffna Kings as they muzzle Dambulla Sixers by 30 runs and move to number one in the points table. Dambulla Sixers has yet to open their winning account and have lost three games in the trot now.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis provided a decent start to Jaffna Kings, adding 30 runs for the first wicket. However, Mustafizur Rahman trapped Mendis for 18 runs and drew the first blood for Dambulla. Rilee Rossouw looked sluggish in the middle and could only muster 12 runs off 11 balls.
Nissanka paired up with Avishka Fernando and notched up his fifty. The pair added 100 runs for the third wicket, with Nissanka departing after a scintillating knock of 88 runs. Fernando, too notched up his fifty and departed for 57 runs off 30 balls. Azmatullah Omarzai played an unbeaten cameo of 19 runs off 6 balls and helped Jaffna post a mammoth 218/5 in 20 overs.
Mustafizur Rahman bagged a couple of wickets for Dambulla, while Nuwan Thushara, Dushan Hemantha, and Chamindu Wickramasinghe contributed one wicket each.
In pursuit of a hefty 218 runs, Reeza Hendricks and Kusal Perera added 33 runs for the opening wicket for Dambulla, with Perera departing for 16 runs off 7 balls. Nuwanidu Fernando (16 off 8), Mark Chapman (30 off 17), and Chamindu Wickramasinghe (20 off 17) looked promising but failed to convert their start into a big score as Dambulla kept losing wickets at crucial junctures. Hendricks stood tall and contributed a scintillating knock of 80 runs off 50 balls but it went in vain as they fell 30 runs short of the Jaffna's total.
Pramod Madushan, Asitha Fernando, and Tabraiz Shamsi bagged a couple of wickets for Jaffna Kings, while Azmatullah Omarzai and Fabian Allen contributed one wicket each to Dambulla's downfall.
