1:40 AM IST, 9:10 PM Local Time: Martin Andersson wreaked havoc with the ball in the latter half of the innings as Leicestershire Foxes were bundled out for just 145 inside 16 overs. Derbyshire Falcons registered their first win of the season in emphatic fashion, cruising to a massive 85-run victory, while Leicestershire slumped to their third consecutive defeat.
Earlier, Derbyshire Falcons produced a dominant batting display to post a massive 230/5 against Leicestershire Foxes after being asked to bat first. Openers Aneurin Donald and Martin Andersson came out firing and added a stunning 78-run stand in the powerplay, putting the bowlers under immense pressure from the outset. Donald narrowly missed out on a half-century, scoring 49, while Andersson smashed 57 off just 29 balls.
Debutant Alex Green provided an important breakthrough after the powerplay, and Ian Holland further pulled things back with a double strike as the Falcons briefly slowed down in the middle overs. However, Caleb Jewell anchored the innings superbly with a fluent 58 off 35 deliveries, before Derbyshire exploded again in the death overs.
Leicestershire Foxes endured a disastrous start in their chase of 231, losing three wickets inside the first two overs and slipping to 6/3. However, Ashton Turner launched a stunning counterattack, smashing 53 off just 22 balls, while Ben Cox provided solid support with 34 off 21 deliveries. The duo stitched together a rapid 92-run partnership to briefly revive the chase and keep the Foxes in the contest.
But once Turner fell, the innings collapsed dramatically. Martin Andersson completely took over with the ball, ripping through the middle and lower order to finish with sensational figures of 6/23 in four overs. Martin Andersson (POTM): "(On his all-round performance) A bit shocked with today. I am extremely happy though to contribute to the win.
(On the pitch) Yeah, it was a very good pitch. Not too much spin, was coming on to the bat. It was incredible for a top order batter.
(On his skills with the ball) I haven't bowled on the competition so far. I was trying to mix up as much as possible. They had to play a lot of shots and luckily all went to hand.
(On his plans with the ball) My bowling is all around cross seam balls and knuckle balls. Tried to play with that.
(On Ross Whiteley taking catches off his bowling) Yeah I need to thank Whiteley. He has taken some really good catches of my bowling today.
(On the team confidence after this win) Yeah, it just takes a couple of things to go your way and the win comes. Very happy with that and will look to add on. Yeah, the confidence certainly will be high heading into the next game and hopefully we do the same."
