The first test match between England and West Indies ended on a draw as the hosts managed to hold off against the attack by the visitors and keep their remaining six wickets alive.

Winning the toss England had a poor start as they lost the top order early, Jonny Bairstow's knock of 140 runs helped England put up 311 runs on the board. West Indies had a great start to their innings as the openers gave their side a 83 runs partnership for the opening in innings.

England started to chip off some big wickets in the middle and death overs as the visitors managed to restrict the hosts to 375 runs as the West Indies took a 64 runs lead over their opponents.

England had a completely opposite second innings as their batters completely dominated the West Indies bowlers and maintained their strong foot hold in the contest, skipper Joe Root and Crawly scored a ton each as the English side declared on 349 runs at the loss of 6 wickets giving West Indies a big target to chase down.

West Indies had a good start to the innings as they kept their wickets intact for the first twenty overs. England fired back with some consecutive wickets from Stokes and Leach to put the pressure back on the West Indies. However, after the loss of 4 wickets, Holder and Bonner took it upon themselves to hold the match to a draw.
Match Drawn
Nkrumah Bonner | Player of the Match: "I love to bat at the particular venue the pitch is really exciting, while we were looking for a win a draw is not a bad result.  always wanted to play Test cricket. I am very versatile, when I am playing in a Test, the goal is to bat long. We showed great character. We have a lot of positives to take from this game."
Joe Root | Captain England: "Really proud of the team. The character we showed, to not panic, brilliant knock from Jonny. Throughout the match, we got better and better. Leach was great, taking wickets today, I can't fault anyone. On that sort of wicket, extra pace and reverse is what you want, but you can't blame Mark. We have to assess how he is when we go to Barbados. Jonny showed great maturity, Zak showed great character, I am expecting another brilliant test match between the both sides, it's great to have fans from back home that come here and support us and really excited about the next match."
Kraigg Brathwaite | Captain West Indies: "It was a great match for both the sides, we played some really good cricket and I am happy with the performance from my team. Hard fought. It was a great effort from the bowling group and even the batters on the final day. We could find ways to be a little tighter with the ball. He (Bonner) told me before the game 300 balls is his aim. The determination he had is an example for us. He's special, he's set us the example to follow. This pitch was good for batting. The bowlers may get a bit out of the pitch in Barbados."
