2:08 AM IST, 9:38 PM Local Time | India Women win by 24 runs! They seal a fantastic victory over the home side to take a 2-0 lead in this 5 match T20I series! Excellent performance from the Women in Blue & Orange to stake their claim as one of the best sides in the world as they breach the fortress Bristol!
England Women won the toss and elected to field first, and initially it looked like a good decision as they rattled the Indian top order. However, a 4th wicket partnership worth 93 runs between Jemimah Rodrigues (63 runs) and Amanjot Kaur (63 runs) set the platform for Ghosh to come in and smash 32 runs off 20 balls to help India Women register 181/4 at the end of their 20 overs.
For England Women, Lauren Bell was exceptional with the ball as she registered 2/17 from her 4 overs.
Come the chase, it was a nightmare start for England as both openers were sent back within the first 7 balls of the chase! India Women followed it up with their 3rd wicket in the powerplay when Kaur got the better of Sciver-Brunt after the latter had struck Charani for 3 boundaries in one over.
Tammy Beaumont stood tall for England, and played a crucial knock of 54 runs off 35 balls to stabilize the innings and give England an outside chance of winning with Amy Jones in tow. It was not to last though, as another poor call between the wickets saw Beaumont run herself out and her wicket opened the floodgates.
Amy Jones fell soon after to Charani, who also dismissed Capsey in the same over to put India in the driver's seat to win the game! With 6 wickets down, Sophie Ecclestone came out to bat and she started smashing it all over the park to pull England back from the abyss!
Eventually, Ecclestone's fiery cameo of 35 runs off 23 balls was not enough as England fell short of the target by 24 runs.
For India, Charani was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 2/28 from her 4 overs. While, Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma picked up a wicket each to help the cause.
India Women will be on cloud 9 after taking another step to seal the series but will be vary of England Women's potential in the upcoming matches!
