SIX! Madavi finishes things off in style! This is the first time Sri Lanka Women defeated England Women in T-20Is and they keep the series alive with this win.

Back of a length delivery on the middle stump line from Cross and Madavi bends low and hammers the pull over the mid-wicket for a biggie to finish the game. Sri Lanka Women win by 8 wickets with 40 balls to spare to level the series.
SLW won by 8 wickets
09.30 PM IST, 04.30 PM Local Time: That's a fantastic performance by Sri Lanka Women! Winning by 8 wickets suggests they had a strong showing with both bat and ball. They dominated in all three departments of the game and leveled the series by 1-1.

Earlier, Sri Lanka Women won the toss and invited England Women to bat first. But England lost early wickets with Danielle Wyatt (1 off 4), Maia Bouchier (12 off 10), and Alice Capsey (3 off 9) falling in quick succession during the powerplay. Heather Knight and Amy Jones attempted to stabilize the innings, but their partnership was disrupted when Ranaweera dismissed Jones for a run-a-ball 12 runs. Knight went off the field at 14 runs. This marked the beginning of a collapse as England Women went on to lose more wickets rapidly, finding themselves in a dire situation at 66/8.

Charlotte Dean and Isabelle Wong provided a late resurgence, with Dean scoring 34 off 26 balls. However, England Women ultimately posted a modest total of 104 runs in 18 overs. Sri Lanka Women's bowlers - Udeshika Prabodhani, Inoshi Priyadharshani, Inoka Ranaweera, and Kavisha Dilhari, each contributed with two wickets, while Chamari Athapaththu and Sugandika Kumari added one wicket each.

While chasing a total of 105 runs. Sri Lanka Women had an impressive start, particularly thanks to Chamari Athapaththu's outstanding performance. Srilanka Women posted 67 runs loss of one wicket in the first 6 overs. Despite losing an early wicket, Athapaththu and Harshitha Madavi provided a strong partnership, with Athapaththu scoring a brilliant 55 runs off 31 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes. Madavi remained unbeaten with 30 runs off 35 balls, and Vishmi Gunaratne played a quick cameo, scoring 18* runs off 15 balls with 4 fours.

In the end, Sri Lanka Women easily crossed the victory line, reaching the target of 105 runs in just 13.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand. It wasn't a good day for England Women's bowlers, with only Alice Capsey and Danielle Gibson managing to pick up a wicket each. Sri Lanka Women's strong batting display helped them level the series 1-1 in a convincing fashion.

Stick around for the post-match presentation…

Heather Knight (England Women Captain): "I think they came out and bowled much better than they did at us the other day, so credit to them. And Chamari came out and did what she does sometimes and was really aggressive and took the game on.  So, yeah, look, lots to learn, lots to get better on, but I think credit to Sri Lanka, I think they played very well, we were pretty off today.

I think we just kept losing wickets consistently through and didn't quite find that partnership sort of. Charlotte Dean played an outstanding little knock towards the back end of the innings and showed us how to play a little bit.

[speaking about Issy Wong] Yeah, she's been struggling a little bit for rhythm, but she's had a few really good sessions, and finding where she's at is important. And in cricket, that obviously is in the middle, not just bowling in the net. So, yeah, look, she still got a little bit of work to do, still getting better, but she's got something there that we want to invest in in the future. So, yeah, sometimes it's tough, international cricket when it's not quite going well and you can't quite find a rhythm but the thing that's impressed me about Wongi, she keeps coming back. She keeps wanting to work on her game and find things, and then she'll get there eventually."
Player of the Match: Chamari Athapaththu
Chamari Athapaththu (Player of the Match & Sri Lanka Women Captain): "Actually, I'm really happy about my team performance, especially I can mention my bowling unit. They've done a really good job today because England is the number one team in the world. So will restrict them to 108 runs. So it's not easy. But actually, I'm really happy about our bowling performance and the batter's done a really good job. Yeah, I'm really happy about my performance as well. I just want to continue this performance for the next game.

Actually, we planned a few things, especially I can mention. We always trust our potential and our skills, and the dressing room always talks about positive things. We never talk about negatives. So every time we talk about positive things. So we learned a lot of things from the last game and we executed the right plans today. So finally we won. That's really good for us.

The first game was a little bit hard because we were playing in that kind of weather conditions for the first time. Too hard, too cold for us.
So finally today's weather is really good for us and we execute the right plan today, especially spinners.

It's huge for us because we never beat England in England and this is the first win against England in T 20 format that's really good for us.
This is a huge turn in women's cricket in Sri Lanka. So I hope we can continue this performance, this tournament, and the next tours as well."

That’s a wrap from our side as well. I hope you enjoyed our coverage. For now, this is Saipavan Janaki signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash, and scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma. CHEERS!
