11:10 PM IST and Local Time: Galle Marvels win a close game against Colombo Strikers to win 2 in 2!
Earlier in the match, Colombo Strikers opted to bowl first. Skipper Niroshan Dickwella went berserk yet again and hammered 50 off just 18 balls, adding 71 runs for the first wicket with Alex Hales, who was just a spectator at the other end. Binrua Fernando broke the opening stand in the final over the powerplay by removing Hales.
Shadab Khan came into the attack and blew away the top and middle order of the Marvels with his spell of 4-0-21-4, reducing the Galle-based franchise to 94/6 in 10.3 overs.
Isuru Udana and Sahan Arachchige did a fantastic recovery job, adding 79 runs for the 7th wicket, with the former scoring 52 off 34 balls and the latter amassing 35 off 27 balls. Matheesha Pathirana dismissed Arachchige in the penultimate over to halt the momentum of the Dickwella-led side.
Fernando (3/22) did pull things back in the end as Galle Marvels were bundled out on the final ball of the innings for 179.
Despite the Strikers' top order getting to start, Galle picked up wickets at regular intervals to get 3 scalps in the powerplay, with the chasing side scoring 57 runs. Theekshana was excellent with figures of 2/20 in 4 overs, getting rid of Shevon Daniel and Muhammad Waseem. Zahoor Khan's brilliant yorker castled the stumps of Rahmanullah Gurbaz on 29.
Glenn Phillips and Sadeera Samarawickrama tried to rebuild but failed to get going. Spinners Arachchige (2/21) and Tharupathi (1/25), along with Udana (2/34), held the fort for the Marvels in the second phase of the run-chase as Dunith Wellalage was left stranded at one end. The southpaw tried his best with his 26-ball 45 but failed to take Colombo over the line. Udana bowled a fine over with 16 run needing in the final over and got rid of the dangerman Wellalage on the last ball of the innings to help his side win the game by 7 runs!
Stay tuned for the post-match ceremony!
