GM won by 7 wickets
6:11 PM IST, Local Time: Tim Seifert finished things off in style! A thumping win for Galle Marvels as they cross the line by 7 wickets and 11 balls to spare, storming into the final of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Jaffna Kings lost Pathum Nissanka for a mere four runs in the third over of the innings but Kusal Mendis and Rilee Rossouw added 61 runs for the second wicket and laid a solid foundation. Rossouw departed for 40 runs, while Mendis fell four runs short of his fifty. Avishka Fernando (52 off 33) played a valuable knock for Jaffana and notched up his fifty. They lost a few wickets in quick succession at the tail end of the innings but Omarzai’s (14* off 8) last ball six helped Jaffna post 177/7 in 20 overs.

Dwaine Pretorius shone with the ball for Galle Marvels, grabbing four wickets. Isuru Udana chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Prabath Jayasuriya contributed a solitary wicket.

In pursuit of 177 runs, Galle lost their skipper, Niroshan Dickwella, for just 9 runs off 4 balls, courtesy of a successful review from Jaffna Kings. However, Alex Hales and Tim Seifert went honkers and bonkers from the word go and kept ticking the scoreboard at a rapid pace. Hales was dropped a couple of times in the process but he failed to capitalize on the opportunity provided and departed for 36 runs off 21 balls.

Seifert paired up with Janith Liyanage and continued the similar ways of batting. They added 90+ runs for the third wicket and notched up their respective fifties in the process. Liyanage perished for 56 runs in quest of a big shot but Seifert remained unbeaten on 62 runs and finished the game with a six in the penultimate over.

Jaffna Kings leaked runs at regular intervals and failed to defend 177 runs. Azmatullah Omarzai, Fabian Allen, and Tabraiz Shamsi were the bowlers to extract a wicket apiece for Jaffna.

Stay tuned for the presentation....
Time for the Post Match Presentations.
Catch of the Match : Bhanuka Rajapaksa
Player of the Match: Dwaine Pretorius
Dwaine Pretorius (Player of the Match) : "Yeah I think at this venue its very tough to bowl at. We need to bowl at good line and length. The ball was stopping at the surface so I was changing my pace off at the death overs.

We sat down as a bowling group that if we win the powerplay we will be on top of the game against the batting. Really happy with the way the game went out today for our side."
Charith Asalanka (Jaffna Kings Captain): "Yeah, we have another match but we need to be more responsible in all three departments. I must take responsibility for losing this game because had I taken that catch things could have been different. I think I dropped a very important catch and let my team down. It was a defendable score but could have score 10-15 more runs."
Niroshan Dickwella (Galle Marvels Captain) : "Well we wanted to give Janith an opportunity and we thought of giving him a permanent spot at Number 4 and Bhanuka at Number 5. Really happy with the way we played the game tonight. We made a few changes and there are so much competition in our squad because of the way our players were playing but we took the right decisions for our side."
Galle Marvels advance to the summit clash of the 2024 Lanka Premier League, while Jaffna Kings will face the winner of the Eliminator on Saturday in their quest for a place in the grand finale. Time to wrap up this coverage. For now, this is me Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentators Pritam Dey, Ayan Chatterjee, and scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. CHEERS!
