10:45 PM IST, Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Galle Marvels as they thump Kandy Falcons by 8 wickets and 4 balls to spare. Kandy Falcons leaked runs at regular intervals and failed to defend 187 runs.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Andre Fletcher and Dinesh Chandimal provided Kandy a rollicking start as the duo added 54 runs for the opening wicket, with Chandimal departing after a rapid 14-ball 32 runs. Mohammad Haris and Kamindu Mendis failed to make an impact with the bat and departed cheaply.
Andre Fletcher notched up his fifty and contributed a valuable 69 runs. Angelo Mathews chipped in with 29 runs, but all of a sudden, Kandy lost three wickets in three balls, with Prabath Jayasuriya bagging two back-to-back wickets in his last two balls of the spell.
Ramesh Mendis played a cameo of 28 runs off just 14 balls at the tail end of the innings and helped Kandy cross the 180-run mark.
Prabath Jayasuriya shone with the ball for Galle Marvels, bagging three wickets. Dwaine Pretorius chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Isuru Udana, Maheesh Theekshana, and Kavindu Nadeeshan celebrated a solitary wicket.
In pursuit of 187 runs, Galle Marvels got off to a rollicking start as Niroshan Dickwella and Alex Hales scored briskly from the outset and added 76 runs for the first wicket, with Dickwella (25) falling prey to his opposite number, Wanindu Hasaranga.
Following the departure of Dickwella, Haled paired up with Tim Seifert and the duo started building the partnership but Hasaranga brought Andre Fletcher into the attack and the ploy did the trick as the Spiceman trapped Seifert for 16 runs and broke the budding partnership.
Hales continued his merry ways and remained unbeaten on 86 runs, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa contributed with an unbeaten 46 runs off just 26 balls, helping Galle win by 8 wickets and 4 balls to spare.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Andre Fletcher claimed a wicket apiece for Kandy Falcons.
