4:18 PM IST, Local Time | The defending champions beat the unbeaten team to qualify for the Semi-Finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25! Haryana defeat Gujarat in Quarter-Final 1 by 4 wickets!
Haryana won the toss and elected to bowl first, and an excellent bowling display from the entire unit saw them bundle out Gujarat for 196 in 45.2 overs! Anuj Thakral led the way with 3/39 from his 10 overs as Sindhu chipped in with 3/40! Hemang Patel's crucial knock of 54 runs off 62 balls helped Gujarat breach the 195 run-mark!
With a low total to chase, Haryana ensured they did not repeat any mistakes that the Gujarat batters did. From the get go, Haryana focused on biding their time and building partnerships to break the back of this run-chase. Ranga provided the early aggression but Nagwaswalla did not let that last long as he dismissed him after a cameo of 25 runs off 16 balls.
After that, Himanshu Rana focused on building partnerships with others en-route to a crucial knock of 66 runs off 89 balls to break the back of this run-chase. Parth Vats played a handy knock of 38 runs off 50 balls and built a strong partnership with Rana worth 55 runs for the 3rd wicket to lay down the foundation for a victory.
Gujarat brought on Ravi Bishnoi a little too late to bowl, as the damage was already done by that time but the leg spinner picked up 4 wickets to throw a spanner in the works and one can only wonder what would be the situation if Axar had brought him on a little earlier. Ravi Bishnoi finished with the figures of 4/46 from his 10 overs.
In the end, Bana stuck around long enough amidst a batting collapse, to see off Bishnoi's overs and take his team just over the line with 34 balls remaining! Gujarat bow out of the tournament after peaking too early and Haryana will now face Karnataka in the Semi-Final to keep their title defence alive!

Axar Patel (Gujarat Captain): "We fell short by 25-30 runs, but if we lose 3-4 wickets within 15 overs then you always make it difficult for yourself. We could have run better and the opening partnership could have lasted longer.
The wicket was not flat, it had variable bounce and lateral movement too. You need time to settle in. If I had brought on Bishnoi earlier, the collapse would not have happened. I wanted us to bowl in tandem and stifle their run-chase."

Anuj Thakral (Player of the Match): "Feels good to be POTm on debut. The captain asked me to keep it simple and do what I know, I enjoyed the first wicket the most. I like to bowl with a semi-new ball."
Ankit Kumar (Haryana Captain): "Thank you. There was some movement off the pitch, I asked my bowlers to tweak the channels they were bowling in and it was about picking up 2-3 more wickets. When Himanshu and Parth were playing, we were okay but after that we did not play good. We were sorted for the most part of it but maybe we had a concentration lapse towards the end."
