11:23 PM IST, Local Time: Despite a flurry of boundaries in the final two overs, thanks to Kranthi Kumar (53*), it is Kalyani Bengaluru Blasters who have won this game by 11 runs. Gulbarga Mystics could manage only 165/8 in their 20 overs. Bengaluru have registered their ninth win of the season and will continue to stay at the top of the points table in the league stage. Meanwhile, Gulbarga have secured their sixth defeat of the season and have very slim chances to qualify for the playoffs.
Bengaluru Blasters were sent to bat first and they posted a decent total of 176/8 on the back of a half-century from Rohan Patil and some fine late-hitting by Faizan Khan and Shubhang Hegde.
The chase got off to a disastrous start as the top order crumbled under sustained pressure from the Blasters' pace attack, who were getting a lot of seam movement. Prakhar Chaturvedi (4), wicketkeeper Lochan Gowda (10), skipper Macneil Noronha (0) and Sharath BR (4) all departed inside the powerplay, leaving Gulbarga reeling at 24/4.
Thippa Reddy attempted to revive the innings with a fearless counterattack. The middle-order batter smashed 55 off just 28 deliveries, striking four fours and four sixes, adding valuable runs with Dhruv Prabhakar (15). However, Dhruv's dismissal at 70/5 triggered another collapse, with Manish Pandey (2) following soon after.
Reddy's dismissal for a blazing half-century at 101/7 virtually ended Gulbarga's hopes, but Kranthi Kumar kept fighting till the end. He stayed at one end and took the game deep, along with the tail-enders.
In the last over, 31 runs were needed and it was not an impossible task for Mystics. Kranthi couldn't take his side over the line but did give a scare to the Blasters. The hard-hitter smashed a hat-trick of sixes in the over and took the equation to 13 runs needed off 2 balls. However, he couldn't score a boundary on the last two balls. Kranthi remained unbeaten at 52 off 36 balls.
For the Bengaluru Blasters, Vidhwath Kaverappa and Nischith N Rao struck twice each, while Rohan Raju also claimed two wickets. Rohan Naveen and skipper Shubhang Hegde chipped in with one wicket apiece and both of them were quite economical.
Despite late resistance from Kranthi Kumar and the earlier fireworks from Thippa Reddy, the early collapse proved too costly as Gulbarga Mystics fell well short, finishing on 165/8.
