Rohit Sharma (POTM & India Captain): "It was good, really enjoyed being out there, scoring runs for the team. Obviously, important game, series on the line. I broke it down into pieces, how I want to bat. A little longer than T20 cricket and a lot shorter than Test cricket. You need to break it down and assess what you need to do at regular intervals. That's what I kept doing. When a batter gets set, it is important to bat as deep as possible.
(On playing straight initially) Yeah, you can say so. Looking at the pitch. When you play on black soil, it skids on a bit. It is important to show the full face of the bat when you bat initially. Once I got in, I understood what they are trying to do. Not to give me any room was their plan and that's when I changed my game and tried to access the gaps that were there. Got good support from Gill and Shreyas as well.
(On opening the batting with Gill) No mantra, we enjoy looking at how we bat. Gill is a classy player. Have seen him very closely. He doesn't get overawed by the situation. The numbers are there for Gill, he is classy to watch from the other end.
(On using spinners to choke the runs in the middle) It is important, the game can go either side. You have to squeeze in a few overs in the middle, it gives you a chance to not worry about the death. People start talking about up front and death but the middle overs are crucial as well.
In both games, we kept taking wickets in the middle overs. We managed to put a squeeze on the scoring rate.
We want to keep getting better as a team. I said it in the last match. Nothing specific, we want to work on ourselves. We want to keep getting better as a team and as an individual. As long as guys are clear on what they have to do and do their job perfectly. They do what the captain and coach want from them, there is not much to worry about."
