Arjun: Not a way England wanted to finish the game but they complete an annihilation here as they go 1-0 in the series.
Arjun: Well that was a clinical performance from the World Champions here. They did not look in any trouble at all during the below-par run chase. India began the chase by scalping Lauren Winfield early in the response, but after that nothing happened to break an India cheer. Firstly, it was the second-wicket stand between the English skipper and Tammy that pulled the momentum from the visiting girls. However, Ekta Bisht knocked Knight's gates but it was just a little moment to celebrate. And after losing their second wicket in the 16th over of the innings, it was all about Tammy Beaumont and Natalie Sciver.
Arjun: Sciver might have handed one chance to the Women in Blue, but after that, the pair for England was all about dominance. The opener started the assault and never stopped it. Beaumont looked in fine touch, she received a lot of half-volleys and she capitalized on every single occasion. In the process, she scored her fourth consecutive fifty in the ODI format. The English vice-captain was too all about offensive style. Nats came out when Tammy was cruising towards the 50-run mark, in the end, Sciver almost equalled her partner's score.
Here are the comments from both skippers.
Mithali Raj: Could be a little more consistent with length. Fielding needs to be a lot better. Something we need to address (dot balls). England definitely have a very experienced bowling attack. They know what lengths to bowl in these conditions. We'll come prepared for the next game and look to show more intent. Other than Jhulan our other seamers couldn't find their rhythm. Will definitely look at our combination.
Heather Knight: Knight: Katherine and Anya set it up with the new ball. Bit more pace in the pitch. It was a plan. Felt that the pitch had a bit more pace to be effective (short ball). Thought it was actually a brilliant cricket wicket. She was brilliant today, nearly catching Tammy. Scores very quickly. That record is remarkable. What form she is in (Tammy). Brilliant to see her do so well. Seamers did a brilliant job, and then those two dried it up. They're two very young and putting in consistent performances. So many options to lean on. Good to see.
Tammy Beaumont gets the Player of the Match Award for her 87 off 87 balls.
Tammy Beaumont: Thought was a very good wicket, our bowlers did a fantastic job to keep them to that score. It skidded on quite nicely. Akways great fun with Nat. She scores very quickly. I know if I play a few dots she'll release the pressure. My role is to bat as long as possible. There's such talent there. So much talent, so much competition for places.
So, that is it from me, Arjun Bhalla and my co-commentators Anurag Singh and Anurag Dasgupta. Stay tuned to OneCricket's coverage of the second ODI between India and England and a lot more cricket games too.
