So a plethora of sloppy fielding made things easier for the home side to clinch a comprehensive victory in the 1st T20I against India which saw 9 wickets and 42 balls in hand. It was Sophia Dunkley and Danny Wyatt with the opening stints for England and Renuka Singh Thakur started off with the cork for India Women. She looked really good and got to extract movements in the air but just didn't have the luck on her side.
Dunkley was scratchy at the start, survived off a no-ball bowled by Thakur, and was also dropped a couple of times. She went on to make full use of her fortune and crafted a beautiful half-century that lead the path towards victory for England.
It was just Danny Wyatt who got dismissed later and courtesy of wicketkeeper batter, Richa Ghosh who did a stunner to stump out the dangerous opener. Alice Capsey joined Dunkley in the middle and made sure to glue an unbreakable partnership that would see England cross the finishing lines.
England made sure to clinch past the target with 7 overs in hand.
Earlier in the game, England Women had won the toss and opted to field first. They got rid of Smriti Mandhana in quick time and then Shafali Verma too went back to the pavilion. At one stage, India were 47-2 after 6.4 overs. The middle order failed to convert their 10s and 20s to a big score and got dismissed on regular succession.
Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur looked attacking in the middle but just when they were looking to switch the gear, Freya Davies and Sarah Glenn sent them back to the pavilion respectively. Sarah Glenn was the weaker in chief for the home side and was well-supported by her fellow mates.
Deepti Sharma single-handedly steered the run past the 130 mark in the end with some fancy boundaries. She was unbridled on 29 of 24 deliveries. Sarah Glenn finished with her best figures in T20I cricket which saw 4-0-23-4.
In the end, it was a smooth chase for Amy Jones and her girls. England takes the 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series with Sarah Glenn as the probably player of the match.
