18:31 IST and Local Time- What an emphatic victory for the Kandy Falcons! They've chased down a mammoth total of 225 and they've done with 10 balls to spare. It's a new record in the LPL as it's the highest successful run chase in the history of the tournament. Kamindu Mendis played a superb knock and he hit the winning runs quite fittingly.
The Kandy Falcons started off with a bang as Dinesh Chandimal along with Andre Fletcher went hard early on. Pramod Madushan nailed a yorker to get rid of the West Indian opener but Mohammad Haris came in and kept up the tempo. The pair of Chandimal and Haris got them through to the end of the powerplay as the Kandy Falcons ended up with 72/1 in the first six overs.
The pair put up 58 runs for the second wicket before Haris swept across the line and ended up being a victim of Shamsi. Kamindu Mendis joined Chandimal. The onslaught continued though as the Falcons got to 122/2 at the halfway stage of the innings. They needed another 103 runs at that stage and it was game on.
The Chandimal onslaught continued along with Kamindu Mendis who got himself in and the started to pile on the runs. Shamsi dismissed Chandimal for 89 finally in the 14th over. Mathews came to the crease at that stage and along with Mendis, he continued to go for the big shots.
In the end, the pair put on 66 runs to clinch an easy win for their side. Mendis scored 65 runs from 36 balls in what was a dazzling display of stroke play. Mathews scored 29 runs from 13 balls to give him good company. Pramod Madhushan was the only other bowler apart from Shamsi who picked up a wicket as the rest of them were taken to the cleaners in what was an absolute demolition job.
