4:58 PM IST & Local Time: The umpires are calling for the two captains and we know exactly what that means. Mayank Agarwal and Siddhesh Lad are walking out to the middle. There it is, the handshakes are done, and the match is officially over. Karnataka were 55 runs ahead of the par score and have comfortably beaten Mumbai, marching into the Semi-Final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26!
Earlier in the day, Karnataka elected to bowl first under overcast skies in Bengaluru, and their seamers made early inroads to keep Mumbai in check. The visitors started cautiously against the new ball, but with the scoring rate stagnant, Ishan Mulchandani tried to up the tempo and was dismissed for 20 soon after the powerplay. Karnataka kept striking regularly thereafter — Musheer Khan fell for 9, Angkrish Raghuvanshi was undone by a beauty from Vyshak Vijaykumar for 27, and Hardik Tamore managed just 1, leaving Mumbai in deep trouble at 60/4.
Siddhesh Lad and Shams Mulani then rebuilt the innings with a vital 76-run stand, showing composure through the middle overs. Lad’s dismissal for 38 against the run of play opened the door again for Karnataka, and Mumbai lost quick wickets, including Suryansh Shedge for 16. Shams Mulani stood tall as the lone warrior, compiling a superb 86 off 91 balls — his highest List A score — while Sairaj Patil’s unbeaten 33 off 25 provided late impetus. Mumbai eventually reached a competitive 254/8, with Vidyadhar Patil leading Karnataka’s bowling effort with figures of 3/42.
In reply, Karnataka once again made a steady start to the chase. Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal took their time early on but kept the scoreboard moving with regular strike rotation. Mayank looked a bit uncomfortable against the new ball and was eventually found out in the final over of the first Powerplay, as Mohit Avasthi dismissed him for 12.
Devdutt Padikkal and Karun Nair then came together to build a solid partnership in the middle. Padikkal’s wicket was the big one for Mumbai, and the left-hander did offer them a couple of chances which went begging. He was first dropped on 24 by Onkar Tarmale and then again on 29 by Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Padikkal made Mumbai pay for those missed opportunities, while Karun Nair settled in comfortably at the other end. The pair went on to put together a match-winning unbeaten stand of 143 off 143 balls for the second wicket.
Devdutt Padikkal (81*) went on to register his sixth 50-plus score of the season, while at the other end Karun Nair (74*) brought up his 16th List A half-century, getting there in just 44 balls. The duo kept milking the bowling with ease as the partnership continued to flourish. Siddhesh Lad turned to Tanush Kotian very late in the innings, but Mumbai were unable to find a breakthrough. At the end of 33 overs, Karnataka were cruising at 187/1, needing just 68 runs from 102 balls, before bad light forced the umpires to take the players off the field. Shortly after, rain arrived and the covers were brought on. The rain showed no signs of easing and eventually it had the final say, bringing the match to a close.
With the par score at 132 after 33 overs, Karnataka were well ahead, sealing a comfortable win over Mumbai and booking their place in the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26!
