12:15 PM IST and 5:45 PM Local Time: Alas! The rain has the final say! It was turning out to be an exciting contest but the clouds in Melbourne had different ideas!
The Adelaide Strikers had won the bat flip and decided to bowl first. It was a decision that backfired to an extent as the Melbourne Stars put up a great show with the bat. There were some serious runs from the bat of Meg Lanning and captain Annabel Sutherland. The former got to 60 before being run out and the skipper stayed not out on quick 39 ball 54!
However, the real impetus came at the back end from Danielle Gibson who added 31 off just 15 balls. The Stars got 61 off the final 5 overs thanks to some indiscipline bowling from the visitors. That propelled their score to a very competitive 184/5.
From the Strikers, lead pacer Meghan Schutt had a day to forget as she leaked 50 runs off her quota. Others too went at 9s and 10s. Only Amanda-Jade Wellington had a day out with figures of 2/20 in her allotted four overs.
The Strikers in their chase lost Tammy Beaumont on the fourth ball to Marizanne Kapp. However, Laura Wolvaardt and Madeline Penna got things back on track and were scoring briskly before the rain started to pelt down. Could have been an exciting game but maybe for another day as of now!
