10:17 PM IST, 5:47 PM Local Time: Another close-fought contest in the Women's Hundred 2023 and the Trent Rockets Women hold their nerves to emerge victorious. The Trent Rockets Women came very close to winning but fell agonizingly short by three runs. With this, the defending champions finish the competition on a high.
Chasing 156, the Rockets Women lost in-form Bryony Smith on nine early in the innings. Lizelle Lee played some beautiful strokes from the other end kept scoring at a brisk rate. Harmanpreet Kaur was promoted to number three but again fell cheaply on nine. Nat Sciver-Brunt along with Lee led the recovery work. Both put a solid stand for the third wicket.
Lee hit some lusty blows and brought up her fifty in quick time. Sciver-Brunt was trying to cut loose before she fell on 21 as the 63-run stand came to an end. Her wicket led to a mini-collapse as the Rockets Women lost their way in the middle phase of the innings. The turning point was Lee's dismissal as she was run out on 33-ball 61.
Naomi Dattani played a handy knock of 13 lower down the order and it went down to the last set. With 18 required from the last five balls, Alexa Stonehouse hit three consecutive boundaries. With five required from the final ball, Stonehouse found the fielder on the flick as the Rockets Women fell short by three runs. Sophia Smale was brilliant with the ball as she registered figures of 2/26 in her 20 balls.
Earlier, Alice Capsey played very well at the top of the order. She lacked support from the other end but she continued playing her strokes and raced to 35 off 24 balls before getting cleaned up. The Invincibles Women lost their way a bit but Nadine de Klerk stepped up and changed the whole complexion of the game.
de Klerk hit some lusty blows and brought up her fifty in no time. She along with Cordelia Griffith put 68 between them off just 34 balls for the sixth wicket to help their side finish with a flourish. Griffith played a handy cameo of 23 off 16 balls before falling in the last over. de Klerk remained unbeaten on 51 off just 25 balls to power the Invincibles Women to 155/6 at the end of their 100 balls which they defended successfully to finish the tournament on a winning note.
