2:00 PM IST and Local Time: An absolute one-sided performance carved out by the defending champions! Mumbai displayed their aura right from the get-go and never let the Railways get ahead!
They won the toss and put in Railways to bat on a nice and lively pitch. Shardul Thakur and Tushar Deshpande were extremely accurate in the powerplay and bowled a maiden each. In 6.2 overs Railways were reeling at 19/2.
Mohammad Saif and Ravi Singh brought some stability as they scored the odd boundary and picked up regular singles. However, when Ravi Singh was dismissed at 64/3, Ashutosh Sharma walked in and played with intent right from the first ball. He smashed 61 off just 30 balls to get his side to a respectable score. He was assisted by Saif who scored 48 off 37.
The pick of the bowlers was Captain Shardul Thakur with 1-15 in four overs. Shivam Dube too was excellent with 1-11 in 3 overs. Railways ended their innings at 158/5 and that was always going to be below par against the star-studded batting line up of Mumbai.
Ajinkya Rahane and Ayush Mhatre came out to bat with intent right from the get-go. They hit consistent boundaries. Mhatre got deceived by a slower ball, but Rahane continued and scored an excellent 62 off just 33 balls. Suryakumar Yadav in at number 3 scored at an excellent pace and brought up 47 runs of just 30 balls. With only 3 wickets down, the Mumbai team chased down the total in just 15.5 overs! A commanding win for the defending champions and a lot to think for the Railways team.
