11:33 PM IST: A comprehensive win for Pakistan as they win this game by 102 runs to go 4-0 up in this 5-match series. With this win, they go upto Number 1 in the ODI rankings for the first time ever. Skipper Babar Azam set it up and then the bowlers were magnificent to give them an easy win.
Chasing 335 for the win, New Zealand got off to a steady start but never got going and challenged Pakistan. They lost Will Young 15 and Tom Blundell for 23. Daryl Mitchell scored 34. Skipper Tom Latham top scored with 60 while Mark Chapman scored a breezy 46 off 33 balls. Jimmy Neesham got to 11. But nothing much to ride home about as they were bowled out for 232 in 43.4 overs.
All the Pakistani bowlers bowled well. The young leg spinner Usama Mir was the star with figures of 4/43 in 10 overs. A couple of wickets apiece for Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Junior. Shaheen Shah Afridi got the other wicket to fall. They kept things tight and got their rewards in the end.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan amassed 334/6 in 50 overs thanks to a majestic 18th ODI ton from their skipper Babar Azam. He became the fastest player to get to 5000 ODI runs. He scored 107 off 117 balls. Shan Masood at the top of the order scored 44 off 55 balls. Rizwan scored a quickfire 24 before being run out. Agha Salman scored and gave the tempo to the innings with 58 off 46 balls. Iftikhar Ahmed scored 28 off 22 balls. Cameos from Mohammad Haris 17* off 8 balls and Shaheen Shah Afridi 23* off 7 balls powered Pakistan to 334/6 when at one stage they looked like getting just above 300.
Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand picking up 3 wickets for 65 runs in 10 overs. A wicket for the debutant Ben Lister and a wicket to Ish Sodhi who bowled an economical spell and gave away only 53 runs. The rest of the bowlers were wicketless with Tickner going for plenty of runs at the death. So, plenty to learn for New Zealand bowlers going forward. One mustn't forget this is a young inexperienced side and they will take positives from this game and series.
So, Pakistan wins by 102 runs and climbs upto Number 1 in the rankings. They lead the series 4-0. Stick around for the presentation ceremony coming your way soon.
