11:18 PM IST and 8:48 Pm Local Time: Eventually Afghanistan proved to be a little too strong for the Qatar side. Even though it was not the main team for the visitors, there was a clear difference in the level of cricket produced.
Afghanistan won the toss early in the evening and chose to bat first. They were slow to get off the blocks but eventually covered up! They were in trouble initially at 21/2. However, small partnerships here and there got them back in the game.
Darwish Rasooli was the key batter with his 68. Small contributions from Mohammad Ishaq and Nangeyalia Kharote got them to 149 eventually. For Qatar the key bowlers were Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Owais Ahmed. Mujeeb had figures of 2-18 and Ahmed finished with 4-29 next to his name! It looked around par at the half way stage.
However, with the fragility off the Qatar batting and some really quality bowling from the visitors, it proved to be quite above par eventually! Qatar batters just couldn't stay at the crease for long and were victims of soft dismissals. They kept on chipping the ball to the close in fielders.
There was a small partnership between Captain Mirza Baig and Muhammad Asim. However, that too couldn't occupy the crease for long and the side perished once the two batters were dismissed. The key bowlers for Afghanistan were Ali Ghazanfar and Farmanullah Safi. Ghazanfar had figures of 1-9 in his quota and just did not let the batters get away.
Despite losing this game, Qatar would be happy that they could nicely hold an international game against Afghanistan. Something that will propel their international structure in the upcoming times.
