10:35 PM IST and 10:05 PM Local Time: A thumping victory for Multan Sultans over the Quetta Gladiators. They have won three out of their four games so far. Steven Smith and Shan Masood made a lightwork of this chase and Sultans won it by 6 wickets and with 15 balls to go.
Multan Sultans won the toss and sent the Gladiators to bat first. Ashton Turner played a gamble by introducing himself from one end and Mohammad Nawaz from the other end. Nawaz removed Khawaja Nafay and Turner got the better of Shamyl Hussain and reduced them to 15/2. Saud Shakeel and Hasan Nawaz then went sedately against the Sultans' spinners. Shakeel played the aggressor's role and they together added 55 runs from 42 balls. Hasan Nawaz was playing the anchor's role but an immaculate glovework from Josh Philippe off Arafat Minhas dismissed him on 20 from 22 balls. In the same over, Minhas removed Rilee Rossouw.
Shakeel and Bevon-John Jacobs registered 47 off 38 balls. Saud Shakeel played a captain's knock and top scored for the Gladiators with his 56 off 41 with 6 fours and a maximum. Jacobs hit 4 fours and 3 sixes to remain unbeaten on 49. 43 runs from the final 3 overs had taken the score to 166/7 for them. Ahmed Daniyal played a gem of a cameo with his 22 off 9 balls.

Sahibzada Farhan decided to amplify his partner's effort and he hit Abrar Ahmed for three boundaries and two sixes facing 9 balls of the latter. Smith took on Tom Curran for four consecutive boundaries and the opening stand snatched the game away from the Gladiators. 71 runs were scored off 31 balls and Farhan got dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for 32 off 14 balls. Smith then decided to bat calmly and take the game deep. He lost Josh Philippe by his side who scored 18 but got a potent partner in Shan Masood. They together scored 40 in 33 balls. Smith got to his fifty and got dismissed scoring 53 off 35 balls hitting 7 fours and a maximum. After his dismissal, Shan Masood made sure no other calamity happens and remained unbeaten on 46 off 30 balls to take his team home.

Mohammad Nawaz (Player of the Match): (On his approach while bowling in the powerplay) “In the powerplay, my focus is to keep the ball on middle and stump-to-stump. I keep observing the batter’s feet and try to bowl in the good length area, around 4.5 to 5 meters, especially at Lahore stadium.
(On trying to get turn with the new ball) Yes, I definitely try to get some turn. If one ball turns, it creates doubt in the batter’s mind. After that, even straight balls become effective, and if it turns again, there’s always a chance for a catch.
(On taking an important catch while running back) Technically, I should have gone with a reverse cup, but I was running, so I had to jump. In that moment, I just adjusted to whatever position I could manage and completed the catch.
(On bowling to left-handed batters as a left-arm spinner) These days, there’s a lot of talk about matchups, like left-handers facing off-spinners. But I’ve also bowled to right-handers in the last few games. When a left-hander comes in, they usually plan to attack, so my aim is to play with their mind. As a finger spinner, it’s important to win that mental battle - if I do that, I have a better chance of success.”

Saud Shakeel (Quetta Gladiators Captain): "(Teams are bowling spinners a lot against you) Yes we have noticed that the teams are attacking with their spinners against us. They are making the spinners bowl against us. We lost early wickets and then we had to play the catch up game.
(Cause of the low total) This is an area of concern that we are losing a lot of wicket in bunches. This is what we should look to stop.
(On the injury of Ahmed Daniyal) Yes if your one of the main bowlers get injured, you are forced to bowl with five bowlers. You do not have the luxury to have many all-rounders. Teams plan according to that. They attacked the pacers and played the spinners calmly."

Tonight, we managed to do that with batting, bowling, and fielding, which was really satisfying.
(On opening the bowling with spin in the Powerplay) I was likely to bowl the first over, but we expected two left-handers at the top. They changed their order, but we noticed early on that the ball was gripping a bit. We feel we haven’t used finger spin enough in the Powerplay, so if conditions suit, it’s a good option for us.
(On having multiple bowling options) It’s helpful because we have fast bowlers for the powerplay, but having spin options as well makes things easier from a captaincy point of view.
(On team environment and Australian players) It’s not just about having Australian players, it’s about having good people. We’ve got a great mix of overseas and domestic players, and a strong support staff. There’s a great atmosphere in the group, and it shows on the field.
(On playing back-to-back matches) Winning definitely helps. It’s a quick turnaround, but that’s part of professional cricket. We’re looking forward to the next opportunity.”
