Two all-rounders stepped up for the Bears and took the game away from Somerset. Beau Webster scored 112, while Dan Mousley remained unbeaten on 71 to take the visitors home.
Earlier in the game, after being asked to bat first, Somerset put on a good performance with the bat. They put on 215 for 4 from 20 overs. Jordan Hermann remained not out on 90 and skipper Lewis Gregory also chipped in with an unbeaten half-century, scoring 55 off just 26 balls. James Rew made 28 and Tom Banton also chipped in with a handy contribution of 24 runs.
Jordan Thompson was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 32. Beau Webster and Richard Gleeson chipped in with a wicket apiece.
In reply, Zen Malik was run out in the first over on nought. Bears also lost Rob Yates inside the powerplay and were reeling at 46 for 2 after 5 overs.
Beau Webster and Dan Mousley then not just steadied the ship but took the game away from the hosts with a remarkable partnership.
The duo added 145 runs off 77 balls for the third wicket. In the process, Webster registered his maiden T20 century. He got out in the 18th over for 112.
Ed Barnard fell in the last over but Mousley and Chris Woakes made sure that the Bears get over the line and take home their first points this season.
