02:11 AM IST, 09:41 PM Local Time: What a game, what a finish. Quite an anti-climatic end to a nervy fixture as South Africa beat Pakistan by two wickets and 3.1 overs to spare. Not the best performance from South Africa as well but they will take it after losing the first game against Australia.
Chasing 127 for victory, South Africa lost Sune Luus cheaply in the 2nd over with Fatima Sana's golden touch continuing as she got the first wicket. Annerie Dercksen gave a potential chance off Rameen Shamim's bowling in the 5th over but Aliya Riaz was a bit late to react at long-on. The over eventually went for 21 runs while South Africa rounded off the Powerplay at 48/1.
Just as the Powerplay finished, Tuba Hassan got Laura Wolvaardt caught at short fine-leg. A few overs later, Nashra Sandhu had Marizanne Kapp stumped courtesy some brilliant work from Muneeba Ali. Dercksen who had reached her fifty also departed in the next over with Tuba Hassan's delivery going through the batters legs to disturb the wood-work.
Pakistan still couldn't sustain the pressure on the batting side as they often conceded boundaries off the last ball of overs. They still managed to continue taking wickets with Sadia Iqbal accounting for Chloe Tryon and Kayla Reyneke. But Nadine de Klerk ensured that South Africa almost reached the victory line with a few boundaries. There were still few more twists left as Fatima Sana dismissed Sinalo Jafta and Nadine but a wide meant that South Africa got over the line in a thriller.
Earlier in the match, Marizanne Kapp rocked Pakistan early with two wickets in the very first over of the innings. Kapp got Ayesha Zafar trapped in front in her next over as well while Ayabonga Khaka castled Natalia Pervaiz. Things only got worse as Rameen Shamim was run-out in the final over of the Powerplay.
The wickets kept tumbling with Iram Javed and Nashra Sandhu getting run-out as well while Shabnim Ismail dismissed Aliya Riaz. Pakistan looked down and out at 50/8 but the captain, Fatima Sana joined forces with Tuba Hassan to stitch a stunning 71-run partnership. Fatima was the dominant partner as she reached her fifty while the partnership was only broken in the final over. In the end, Fatima ended up unbeaten on 55* (38) to help her side post 126/9 off their 20 overs.
