Mayank Yadav knocked over Sanat Sangwan off the very first ball of the run chase and provided a solid start to East Delhi. Pranav Pant suffered the same fate on the very next delivery, but it turned out to be a front-foot no-ball. Pranav made good use of the reprieve, contributing a 24-run cameo before eventually falling to Ashish Meena.
Just when East Delhi looked set for a total in excess of 200, the innings unraveled spectacularly. South Delhi Superstarz produced a sensational fightback, triggering a collapse that saw the Riders lose their last seven wickets for just 29 runs and get bowled out with 11 balls to spare. Anshuman Hooda was the chief destroyer, returning magnificent figures of 5/24 to register the first five-wicket haul of DPL Season 3, while the rest of the bowling unit backed him up brilliantly to restrict the Riders to a below-par total.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, East Delhi Riders were bundled out for 165 in 18.1 overs despite being in complete control for most of the innings. Ayush Badoni struck early to remove Sujal Singh in the opening over, but Arpit Rana and Dhruv Kaushik rebuilt the innings with a brisk 52-run partnership, taking the Riders to 66/2 at the end of the powerplay. Rana continued his fine form, scoring a fluent 66 off 39 balls, while Kavya Gupta chipped in with 42, adding a crucial 68-run stand for the fourth wicket that lifted the score to 136/3.
5:14 PM IST, Local Time: A superb all-round display from South Delhi Superstarz saw them defeat East Delhi Riders by four wickets, with 11 balls to spare, to kick off their DPL Season 3 campaign on a winning note. The bowlers staged a strong comeback in the latter half of the first innings, picking up wickets at regular intervals to restrict East Delhi Riders to a below-par total. The batters then provided a solid start despite losing a wicket off the very first ball of the innings, laying the foundation for a comfortable chase.
Mayank Rawat (East Delhi Riders Captain): "(What felt short for them today?) Well, we got off to a really good start, did well till the 13th over but then suddenly we collapsed. That completely changed the complexion of the game.
(On having the two best fast bowlers in the team) We have Simar (Simarjeet) and Mayank. Mayank got a wicket first ball and also got one in the second ball which ended up being a no-ball. Everyone gave their best. It was our first much. We will come back stronger in the next game.
(On him batting lower down the order) Well, there was nothing as such as strategy. My plan was to hold myself back for the second half of the innings. At that time, Kavya and Arpit were having a good partnership in the middle. After that, we lost 4 quick wickets which changed the momentum completely."

[Can you take us through what was going through your mind?] We won the toss on this surface and decided to bowl first because we felt that was the right option. Teams have generally preferred chasing here, and after the first 10 overs, it looked like we were in for a score of around 200. But then Hooda came in and did exactly what we needed. We were fortunate to have someone like Anshuman Hooda bowling at the back end, and the way he picked up that five-wicket haul completely turned the game around. Full credit to him that he made my work easy.
[Mood in the camp] The mood was very simple: just play your shots and don't think about the total.
